Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra fishing report
Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/14/2016 - 10:26amHello fellow anglers, there's a lot going on in our local fishing world, despite the weather. With Topaz Lake opening up and the higher lakes having good ice on them this year.
I've had as many reports this last week as I would in the middle of May. Before we get to our reports, I would like to do a little education about ice conditions in our area. Our local weather temperatures have been extremely cold during the end of last year and into this year.

Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/17/2015 - 12:14pmHello fellow anglers, Christmas is right around the corner soon followed by New Year's Day. Time seems to get away from us throughout the year, but when Christmas comes we all start to think about family and friends we have had over the years.
Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra fishing report: Alpine lakes icing over
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/02/2015 - 7:44pmHello fellow anglers, winter doesn't officially begin until Dec. 21 but with our recent weather, I'm getting ready for ice fishing season.
With 8 degree mornings, the higher lakes are now beginning to freeze over. I prefer to wait until a lake has a minimum of 8 to 10 inches of ice on it before I venture out, even though statistics and various websites may say different.
I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: August 22-23
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 08/21/2015 - 5:23pmHold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra fishing report for Memorial weekend
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/20/2015 - 3:25pmHello fellow anglers and welcome to Memorial weekend. Before I get to our local report, I have to tell you about some great people.
As many have heard, due to the lack of rain in the Carson Valley, the 26th annual Lampe Park Kids Fishing Derby was going to be moved to Mitch Pond. I am here to say, due to the generosity of the Carson Valley Ranchers, they have collectively agreed to give the amount of water needed for the five day derby event. That my friends is what community is all about. I tip my hat to the Carson Valley Ranchers for stepping up and making a difference for the kids.

Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey's Lake Tahoe and Sierra fishing report for Feb. 27
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 9:46amHello fellow anglers, someone asked me the other day, when does fishing season open? I told him, I fish all year around. The rivers and streams in Alpine County are closed until April 25, 2015, but the lakes are open all year. As for ice fishing, that has come to a close for this year.
Due to our unusually strange winter, the higher lakes have started to thaw out. I talked with John Voss from Caples Lake last week. John said he has not seen such an early thaw in 40 years.

Outdoors with Don Q: Davis Lake, Calif. annual ice fishing derby on Feb. 7
Submitted by editor on Sat, 01/31/2015 - 10:34amAn annual ice fishing derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Davis Lake, Calif., with an entry fee of $20 per person. The only uncertainty is whether it will be an ice fishing or a water fishing derby.
It is normally an ice fishing derby at this time of the year, but last year and again this year, it is shaping up to be a water fishing derby due to lack of ice on the lake.

Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey: Winter fishing begins around the region
Submitted by editor on Fri, 01/09/2015 - 8:20amHello fellow anglers, I am here to say that winter fishing has officially begun. Last Monday, my friend Jerry Dow from Carson City joined me for some ice fishing at Red Lake. We arrived about 10am to a cleared parking area behind the dam. There was approximately a foot of snow on the dam, which makes it much easier to pull your sled on.
Doug 'Mac the Naw' Busey: Still too early to ice fish on most Sierra lakes
Submitted by editor on Sun, 12/28/2014 - 12:31pmHello fellow anglers, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I can tell you that I got all I asked for.
Snow on the ground, though it was meager, and for the temperatures to cool down. This way we can all go ice fishing soon.
As for right now the higher lakes are just getting iced over. Caples Lake only has about 4 days of ice on it and Red Lake has an inch or so over it.
