With soggy weather here, some cancellations are inevitable. One thing you can count on, however, is the monthly Downtown Business Association’s wine walk; it’s a rain, shine, or blizzard event. Stay dry and well-fed with the Kiwanis annual BINGO Spaghetti Feed at the Carson Senior Center. Hello fellow anglers. I have some great news for Nevada anglers. This year the Nevada Department of Wildlife has restructured their licensing. There is no need to get a second rod stamp or purchase a trout stamp when purchasing your 2018 fishing license.

Hello fellow anglers, it is hard to believe December is here and soon will come ice fishing and the opener of the Topaz Lake 2018 fishing season. The ice fishing may have to wait a little longer.

Hello fellow anglers, fall has fallen and brought the down the temperatures with it. Last week camping with the Ness family, we hit a whopping low of 24 degrees one night. That is hardcore camping when you are in a tent. For those that want to get in a few last camping trips, you have better hurry up.

Hello fellow anglers, it is now officially summer time and we are feeling it. When the temperatures reach 90 in Tahoe, It is time to fish the higher lakes. I hope you had a special time last week on Fathers Day.

Fire up that grill, Carson City, we’ve got the perfect weather to kick off the summer. The early Farmers Market at Musser and Nevada offers the perfect finishing touches to any picnic or bar-be-que. It’s all aboard for train lovers: the V&T begins its runs to Virginia City this weekend and the historic Glenbrook Engine is all steamed up at the Railroad Museum. On June 10, 2017 from 8:00AM - 12:00PM, Carson City Lodge #2177 will host our 21st Annual Kids Fishing Day for kids ages 5 through 12. This year our venue is again returning to Davis Creek Regional Park in Washoe County, NV. because this event coincides with Nevada's Free Fishing Day, no licenses will be needed. The group will meet at the Lakeview group picnic area.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. The Annual Cops and Kids Open House at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department is a family favorite with free food, activities, and games. Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. The Carson City Raiders Booster Club will hold its inaugural Fishing Derby Saturday, May 20th at Topaz Lake.
Sign ups are from 6-8 a.m. behind the lodge. Entry fee is $10 per person; up to three lines in the water. Each entrant must have a valid/current fishing license. No exceptions. All fishing rules/laws must be followed.

This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. Grab the kids and enjoy today’s open house with free admission at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Hello fellow anglers. It is hard to believe it is May 2017, especially with most of the higher lakes still with snow on them. Many of our back country lakes won't be accessible until mid to late June and possibly into July.

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. It may be April’s Fools Day, but the fun going on around town is no joke. Get your blood pumping with the Carson Canyon Half Marathon (or Half/Half Marathon if you want something shorter.) It’s Wine Walk weekend, and with the sunny day you have no reason to stay home. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers want to ‘Give Our Regards to Broadway’ during their one weekend only production. There’s too much to mention in this short opening paragraph, so keep reading for all the great things our valley and sister valleys have to offer.

Hello fellow anglers, last weekend Renee and I took an adventure through Alpine County. We started at Red Lake and ventured back through Hope Valley. We then took a turn up to Monitor Pass along the east Carson River.

If you’re looking for something to do on New Year’s Day other than sitting on the couch watching football, you should try heading out to the season opener at Topaz Lake. The lake has been closed to fishing since September 30, but it will be open for fishing again on Jan. 1 in one of Nevada's more unique ways to celebrate New Year's Day.

Hello fellow anglers, Wishing you a warm and a happy holiday fishing season. Although many areas in our local area have closed for the season, we still have plenty of options to keep on fishing. The lakes in the higher altitudes have started to freeze and ice fishing will be upon us soon. I ask anglers to resist the urge to venture out on lakes and ponds until we have at least eight inches of solid ice.

Hello fellow anglers, it is hot hot hot. Even the fish are saying it is too hot to bite. This report will be brief due to a fishing experience I had last week. Renee and I decided to go up Highway 4 to camp along the river and fish.

Hello fellow anglers. We have had two successful kids fishing derbys in our area. The Lampe Park Kids Derby had 1,300 children attend this year and last Saturday was the Alpine County Kids Fishing derby at Indian Creek.

My hat is off to all the volunteers that came together to make this such a successful and fun event. Now it is time for the kids to take dad fishing. Father's Day is this Sunday and what better way to give back than to take your dad fishing. These events are the reason that most kids get hooked on fishing.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. Hello fellow anglers, well the big kids have had there opening fishing day. Now it is time to the little kids to shine. On June 3-4, the 27th annual Lampe Park Free Kids Fishing derby will kick off the season for 2016. This event is open to all kids ages 3 through 12.

The changing of the monthly guard is happening. The first of May is Sunday and Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Music, theater, sports, shopping and more will be abundant in the valley this weekend, so make sure to take a good look at this weekend’s list for all of your fun options.

After that cold snap earlier this week, it’s time to go enjoy the sunshine. Spend the afternoon cheering on the WNC Wildcats as they take on Salt Lake Community College. Hello fellow anglers, my fishing partner Tom Blotter and I had a challenging time at the Hook Line and sinker Derby last weekend at Topaz Lake. On the lake by 6 am Saturday, and the fishing was on. We had 20 fish day for each of us.

It is only 93 days until the California fishing season,43 days until daylight savings time begins, and now that we are past the winter solstice, each day will be lighter 1 minute longer until June 30. Just a few things to get excited about.
