The state overall was one of the hardest hit nationally and the housing market is still in recovery.
A glimmer of hope was seen in 2013, as home values headed up while foreclosure rates headed down, according to a report from the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Prescribed fire activity continues around Lake Tahoe

Recent rain and snow made conditions too wet for burning this week, but fire management staff expect conditions to be dry enough for burning next week.
Smoke from March 29 prescribed fires in the Stateline area did drift into Carson City and Lyon County.
Traffic accidents reported on South Carson Street, another at Clearview
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 04/04/2014 - 6:57amCarson City Fire Department responded to two motor vehicles accidents Friday morning. One was in the northbound lane in the 2700 block of Carson Street and the other was in the intersection of Carson and Clearview involving a street sweeper.
At least one person was injured in the first accident, reported at 7:44 a.m. at Frontage Road and Sonoma streets and was taken to the hospital via ambulance.
Care Flight called after vehicle crash at College Parkway and Northgate
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 03/30/2014 - 9:19amCarson City Fire Department emergency responders ordered two Care Flight helicopters Sunday morning after a two vehicle crash at College Parkway and Northgate. One of two people injured was reported to be pregnant.
The crash was reported at 10:06 a.m. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are re-routing traffic around the accident scene. College Parkway has been shut down at Carson Street.
The condition of the two injured is unknown at this time. Both will be flown to the trauma unit of Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Smoke from Lake Tahoe prescribed fire blows into Carson City, Dayton
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 03/29/2014 - 3:07pmA prescribed fire in the Round Hill area at Lake Tahoe is putting up a lot of smoke that has made its way into the Carson City and Dayton areas, officials said Saturday afternoon.
A Douglas County Sheriff's Office dispatcher confirmed the prescribed fire is off of Kent Way and is part of an active controlled burn that is indeed putting off a lot of smoke. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District has a crew on the prescribed burn. The U.S. Forest Service reports a prescribed burn in the Cave Rock area as well.
Driver uninjured in Highway 50 accident a mile up Spooner
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 1:36pmCarson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a single vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Highway 50 approximately a mile up. First responders report the driver of the vehicle was standing outside of it. Carson City Fire Department reports the driver wasn't injured.
Also responding to the accident were Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The report came into NHP dispatch at 2:24 and Carson City dispatch at 2:27 p.m.
Fire burns large home in Douglas County residential area
Submitted by editor on Tue, 03/25/2014 - 12:00pmEast Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts responded at 6 a.m. Tuesday to a structure fire in the 400 block of Natures Edge in the Jobs Peak residential area of Gardnerville.
East Fork committed 36 firefighter personnel and 4 chief officers, staffing 6 engines, 3 rescues, 1 heavy rescue and 4 brush trucks to this fire. The fire was a difficult fire to control due the type of heavy timber construction and metal roofing on parts of the structure.
Carson City firefighters knock down brush fire off of Carson River Road
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 03/24/2014 - 8:14pmCarson CIty firefighters were called Monday night to Sierra Vista at Carson River Road for a small brushfire southeast of Carson City.
According to Carson City dispatch the fire was reported to be about 10 feet by 20 feet in size when firefighters arrived, where they quickly knocked it down. All second responding engines called to the fire were canceled, according to dispatch.
Prescribed fires around Spooner, Lake Tahoe Basin continue Monday

The prescribed fires could continue through the week and the weekend if weather, staffing, and conditions allow. Besides Spooner fuels management crews will likely be assigned to the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 S near South Lake Tahoe.
Lyon County, Carson City rescue crews respond to accident at Highway 50 and Highland

Douglas Commission looks to appoint retired Carson City Manager Larry Werner as interim county chief

The Interim County Manager will serve over the next several months during the recruitment process for a new County Manager.
The Board discussed several options for interim management at its meeting at Lake Tahoe on Thursday, March 20, 2014, including appointment of qualified individuals from within and outside the organization.
Carson City firefighters snuff small brush fire, children playing with matches suspected
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 03/19/2014 - 4:48pmA small shrub fire was knocked down shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday night at a park in the area of Windridge and Spooner Drive in Carson City. Children playing with matches is believed to be what started the fire, which burned some shrubs and bushes.
Carson City firefighters were called at 4:56 p.m. Smoke and flames were visible in the area. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies investigating found a box of matches next to the fire. Neighbors told officers that they saw two children, between the ages of 7 and 9, running from the area about the time the fire started.
Care Flight, Carson City Fire Department called to Prison Hill after man falls 30 feet

The man was reported to have a head injury, was bleeding from a laceration, was conscious and awake but not alert.

Carson City deputies stop man after he allegedly drives truck into mail boxes
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/13/2014 - 11:27amA man was stopped at around noon Thursday on Arrowhead Drive in Carson City after allegedly driving his truck into mailboxes on Sunrise Drive and then fleeing the scene.
Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies detained the man after two reports came into dispatch beginning at 11:47 a.m. of a man in a gray pickup hitting mailboxes as he was leaving the scene.
When deputies caught up with the driver on Arrowhead Drive, the vehicle had a flat tire. The Carson City Fire Department was called to evaluate the man. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

WNC offers new driver education classes over spring break
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/12/2014 - 11:24amNew Driver Education courses for teens age 15 and older will be offered by Western Nevada College over spring break. Each session includes four days of instruction, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $100.
Two spring courses will meet on the WNC Carson City campus on Saturdays, March 15-April 5; and Monday-Thursday, April 14-17, during the Carson High School spring break.
Two classes will be offered in Douglas County at the Eastfork Fire Station in Genoa, Monday-Thursday, April 21-24, during the Douglas High School spring break.
Prescribed burns planned for Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park backcountry through spring
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/11/2014 - 12:03pmPrescribed burns at Tunnel Creek in the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park backcountry will be held March through May weather permitting, according to the Nevada Division of Forestry.
The Tunnel Creek road, from State Route 28 to Tunnel Creek Station, may be closed in order to conduct the burns. Signs will be posted throughout the area when burns are being conducted.
Wellington pilot Joseph James Miceli identified as victim of plane crash near Carson City

Body discovered in downed airplane southeast of Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 03/09/2014 - 2:29pmUPDATE: One body was found inside a downed airplane Sunday southeast of Carson City near Mexican Dam in the Pinion Hills. Search and rescue crews found the body inside the aircraft at around 5 p.m., said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.
Search and rescue crews were dispatched this afternoon after an airplane pilot contacted dispatch to report seeing an aircraft past the power lines in the Sierra Vista Lane area. A RAVEN helicopter was dispatched to aid in the search but was canceled after the Search and Rescue crews made it to the airplane and discovered the body.

Two-vehicle accident at Musser and Stewart ties up traffic; Care Flight ordered
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 03/07/2014 - 4:59pmCare Flight was called and Carson City Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Musser and Stewart streets late Friday afternoon.
The accident, reported at 4:50 p.m. was said to be a t-bone between the two vehicles with air bag deployment and serious injuries to at least one person, according to Carson City dispatch.

Senator Reid slams House efforts to gut money from Nevada land sales

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid on Wednesday denounced House efforts to gut the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act as part of the Tule Springs legislation mark-up to take place Thursday morning.
Prescribed fire operations continue around the Lake Tahoe Basin

Carson City dispatch was alerted by concerned residents this afternoon about smoke seen south and west of C Hill. Firefighters confirmed it came from the controlled burns.
Prescribed fire activities are taking place on Spooner Summit on the East Shore, off of Bunker Drive near Tahoe City, on the west side of Highway 89 N near Tahoma, and in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 S near South Lake Tahoe.
