Douglas authorities: Gardnerville man suspected of killing his mother dies

Residents urged to report suspicious activity following Dayton Valley car break-ins

The thieves walked along the corridor testing the doors of cars parked in drive-ways. If unlocked, the cars were rifled for valuables. Items stolen were small electronics, like GPS systems, cash, or other items.

The Trash Mob meets on the third Saturday of every month for an hour to clean up litter along Carson City's walking and biking paths.
Suspect allegedly kills mother in early morning Gardnerville shooting
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 10/13/2015 - 2:25pmA 27-year-old man allegedly shot his mother dead during a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning at a Gardnerville home, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation has identified the suspect as Jarek Kozlowski, 27. The victim, Michelle Kozlowski, was found fatally shot in the street near the Manhattan Way home.
Virginia sailor volunteers help spruce up area park, BAC grounds
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/12/2015 - 1:13pmSpending yet another Saturday in Carson City on their day off, 12 sailors from Virginia Beach, VA who are training at NAS Fallon, volunteered their time to assist in two needed projects.
Split into two groups, four were escorted to the Civil War burial site behind Fuji Park to build a split rail fence to protect the gravesite while the second spent the day at the Brewery Arts Center performing tasks to spruce up the grounds, repair gutters and dig up curbs.

Navy sailors on deck Saturday for volunteer work at historic Nevada State Prison

NHP also reports there were no injuries on a single-vehicle Jeep accident that flipped in the area of Spooner Junction.

Highway 50 livestock fencing project begins
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 8:52amThe Nevada Department of Transportation will enhance traffic safety with a new project that began Monday by installing livestock fencing on sections of Highway 50 in Silver Springs.
The project will fence approximately four and a half miles of U.S. 50 between Boyer Lane and Pinto Street and from Onyx Street to the U.S. 95 Alternate intersection in Silver Springs. The four-strand, smooth wire fencing will stand four feet high to help prevent wild horses and cattle from entering the highway.

This took years of planning, relentless meetings with the Board of Supervisors and working with many different city agencies, City Planner, City Manager and engineers.
During this process there have been meetings with all the businesses and reaching out to the college and our high school to get them involved. We had public meetings where we listened and adapted your concerns to our plan for we understood that to be successful it takes a village.

Suspect caught trying to escape home near Roop Street

Andre Franklin, 21, was taken into custody at around 5 p.m. He was found in a home a few houses down on Hawaii Circle from where he was originally thought to be hiding. He was discovered by an officer trying to escape through a backyard.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released the following information: At 1:37 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic battery report at the 2000 block of Hawaii Circle in Carson City.

Seeliger Elementary lockdown lifted after man with pajamas seen earlier leaving playground

Carson City School Superintendent Richard Stokes said the sheriff's office was contacted when the man was on school grounds. Several officers responded, going through neighborhoods where the man was seen leaving school property, going over a fence.
With further consultation with the sheriff's office, the school was placed in a lockdown with admittance, which closes the school off for children, keeping them indoors but being able to go from classroom to classroom, said Stokes.
WNC Softball: Wildcats level home field with sweep against Colorado Northwestern

WNC completed a four-game Scenic West Athletic Conference softball sweep of Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
The Wildcats backed the six-hit pitching of Kristina George by lining a homer and five doubles in a 6-3 opening-game victory, then Gabriella Canibeyaz delivered two hits and two RBI in a 7-3 second-game victory.
