The Legislature celebrates the Nevada Tribes with a tour of Stewart Indian School and a lunch-time presentation. Dance to the music of Deep Groove at Sierra Place Senior Living. Let Ev Musselman romance you at Valentine’s Day ‘Cigar Bar Style’ as he channels his inner lounge singer, ‘Cheese the Knife.’ Valentine’s Day with the Mile High Jazz Band means a Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts at Comma Coffee.

Treat your honey to a night on the town and an amazing performance by the Reno Philharmonic. For one night only, you’ll find the orchestra and special guest pianist, Conrad Tao, in the Bob Boldrick Theater. Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint welcomes the River Arkansaw, a bluesy-Americana band from Colorado. Pick your favorite love song to sing at the Fox Brewpub’s karaoke night.

There's live music with Brother Dan at Living the Good Life, comedienne Kat Simmons at the Carson Nugget, or the documentary on Bill Cunningham at the Nevada State Museum that may be enough to tempt you out. Please be careful, drive safely, and keep an umbrella handy. Keep your fingers crossed this storm passes quickly – a full moon and lunar eclipse at sunset are visible to those without cloudy skies.

Several of our hiking and bike trails have been affected, the sports fields are a muddy mess, and we are still in danger of more flooding.

If your loved one is an art lover, take a look inside the new Wild Horse Gallery at the Carson Mall: their grand opening is this evening. Artist Eric Holland is featured at the Rinckel Mansion and will be present for a reception tonight. Grab your thinking cap and your smartest friends for Geeks Who Drink trivia at Westside Pour House. Vocalist Jakki Ford is the guest vocalist for the jazz jam at Living the Good Life.

Although, if the rain continues to fall, the walk will take place at our new Multi-Purpose Athletic Center. Capital City Art Initiative celebrates the artists of Western Nevada College this evening, and then welcomes Phyllis Shafer for an illustrated discussion of her work. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club shows off a young Elizabeth Taylor tonight in the 1954 romantic drama ‘The Last Time I Saw Paris.’

Nevada artists’ works featured during Nevada Legislative session

Focus on Carson photography banner to be installed Wednesday at Curry and Telegraph
Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/21/2016 - 12:19pmThe Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition will install its Focus on Carson photography banner on the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation construction site fence at Curry and Telegraph streets this Wednesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m.
The banner displays 20 photographs taken in Carson City by local artists. The public is invited to attend and help hang the banner.
Sculptor Pasha Rafat to speak at Nevada Arts Council OXS reception May 11

A recipient of a Nevada Arts Council 2015 Artist Fellowship Grant, Rafat holds a bachelor of science in design from Arizona State University and a Master of Fine arts from California State University, Fullerton. He is a professor at University pf Nevada, Las Vegas where he teaches photography and multimedia courses. The public is invited to an exhibit reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Limbert in new LXS display opening May 18 at Legislative Building

The artist said “Forevermore” is a personal narrative exploring themes of childhood, nature and the complexities of relationships. The exhibit is a selection of work from Limbert's recent solo show of oil paintings on wood cutouts at the Trifecta Gallery in Las Vegas.
Natural materials made from Nevada backyards become tools of art in Lillegard workshop

The Reno artist presents a workshop “Natural Dye Introduction” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. March 30 at the Nevada Legislative Building, in a SENarts “Work of Artists” event co-sponsored by the Nevada Arts Council and Capital City Arts Initiative. The artist will demonstrate simple and safe processes she uses to dye fibers with natural materials harvested in Nevada backyards.
Clan garments featured in 'Second Skin' exhibit at Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, reception Feb. 18

The Reno artist featured in the latest show at the Office eXhibition Series Gallery works in fabrics that explore group identity, belonging and symbols, in garments sometimes called clan jackets.
The attire is said to communicate meaning, cultural legacies and myths. The OXS exhibit “Second Skin” is free at the Nevada Arts Council, 716 N. Carson St., in Carson City, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 17. Lillegard will discuss her work at a public reception from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, with an artist talk at 6:15.
Rowan debuts at Legislative Exhibition Series Feb. 2

Her “Rainbow Spiral” pine needle basket is among her works featured in “Pine Spirit” at the Legislative eXhibition Series Gallery Feb. 2-20 in the Nevada Legislative Building.
Robin Stark's 'Ceramic Reflections' featured at Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/06/2013 - 11:53amHenderson artist Robin Stark’s ceramics are featured in the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City from Dec. 9 through Jan. 31.
The work featured in Robin Stark: Ceramic Reflections represents a recent trend in which the artist’s ceramic forms become entirely sculptural. From the time spent in her first ceramic class in college, the material continues to engage Stark with its versatile and aesthetic qualities.
“The work fluctuates, presenting the viewer different considerations of what can be made in clay,” Stark said.
New series debuts at OXS Gallery with Hackett-Morgan work- Reception Aug. 15

The Arts Council will host an artist talk at 6:15 p.m. and a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.
“A Western Dependence” features two series of paintings and prints created over the last 14 years by Hackett-Morgan who is drawn to neglected billboards, closed roadside attractions, and other evidence of abandonment in the desert west,” said Susan Boskoff, executive director of the Arts Council.

Couper came from New Zealand to explore periods of Western art history. Through what he calls painterly investigations, he said, he has discovered that history often repeats. In the series, Valley of The Dry Bones, Couper uses the established Spanish Colonial narrative traditions to discuss the space between myth, religion and art politics. The Arts Council will host an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. and a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
