Donate small CD players to United Latino Community

We are located at 1711 N. Roop (corner of Roop and Beverly). We have many students waiting to learn English. You are needed! Instructional materials and training are provided at no charge. Free Citizenship Study Class

Join community volunteer tutors and learn how to teach basic English to adults on a one-to-one basis. United Latino Community hosts a free tutor training workshop, from 1:00 until 2:30 pm on Friday, October 2, at United Latino Community, 1711 N. Roop (corner of Roop and Beverly). There are more than 100 adults in Carson City who are eager to learn to speak, read and write English. Light snacks will be served. Instructional materials and training are provided at no charge by United Latino Community. Neither experience nor foreign language is necessary. Commitment is 1-2 hours per week.

ESL Honors Students and Tutors

An 11th Year celebration award ceremony was given to honor all ESL tutors, students and new U.S. citizens of the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada. The event was held at the Governor's Mansion. Ethnic Salvadoran food was supplied by La Santaneca Restaurant. Entertainment was supplied by Metzonali Folklore Dancers.

ESL in-home program continues through summer

During the school year when schools are closed, parents of ESL school children living in Carson, Douglas and Washoe counties are also taking ESL classes for adults. When public schools are closed these adults will need English Conversation practice so they do not lose some of their skill.

Senator Square: Carson High celebrates 20th annual Holiday Craft Fair this weekend

Carson High’s 20th annual Holiday Craft Fair is Friday, Nov. 21 from 5 to 8p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be the best one yet with lots of new vendors as well as all your favorites. Come spend some time – great food, entertainment, a raffle, Santa, book sale, and of course, amazing and unique gifts for everyone. Admission for adults on Friday evening is only $2 and includes a raffle ticket as well as re-entry privileges on Saturday.

ESL 10th Year Award Ceremony

June 28, 2014 was a gala day for many of our most disadvantaged families, as 42 adults from the ESL in-home Program of Northern Nevada, a no-cost-to-student program, were presented with certificates of achievement in English language and literacy. The program also tutors GED preparation and Citizenship Study at no cost.

Carson City School District honors retiring employees

Retiring teachers and staff of the Carson City School District were celebrated for their accomplishments during the Carson City School District Board meeting at the Community Center on Tuesday, May 22.

A total of 13 staff members from Carson City schools were granted a clock award by Associate Superintendent of Human Resources Jose Delfin. Most of the staff that received the awards had worked for the school district for at least a decade. George Rolin, a custodian of Fremont Elementary School for more than 20 years, expressed his gratefulness when he received his award.

Oil Change for a Cause

Please help our program raise funds to start new students eager to learn English. We have so far helped over 400 adults:
Saturday, October 9th, from 8am to 6pm, Mike’s Mobile Oil will be hosting an "Oil Change for a Cause" fundraiser and will donate 100% of their profits from this event to the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada to purchase the needed teaching materials for their program to continue. Grandma Hattie’s Restaurant has kindly donated the use of the parking lot behind the restaurant at 2811 South Carson St in Carson City.

Oil Change for a Cause

The Oil Change for a Cause is a fundraiser designed to benefit the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada. The ESL In-Home Program is a local community service organization that provides free English lessons at no charge to adults in the community whose native language is not English. It recruits and trains volunteers to teach people English and provides the instructional books and training. The program currently has 115 adults on a waiting list. The funds raised will be used to purchase the books needed to start these adults who are eager to learn to speak, read, and write English.
