The first weekend of 2019 also means the first Saturday of the month, which is the day of the Downtown Business Association Monthly Wine Walk in downtown Carson City, come rain, snow, wind or shine.
That's a good thing, too, because this weekend will likely have all of that.

This is also the last weekend before Christmas Day, which means the last Santa Trains of the season at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Santa Claus also leaves his North Pole headquarters at the Carson Mall Sunday in preparation for his big night.
Local Carson City woman honored in CNN Heroes Award Ceremony, discusses future of ESL program

Now, she wants to continue to expand the program.

Today brings the second and final volunteer training event at the Nevada State Museum, morning and afternoon hikes and walks, a rally at the capital, a fundraiser at Mills Park, plenty of art exhibits and more.
Local family organizes picnic Tuesday at Mills Park for member with leukemia

It will be a picnic in Mills Park on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The food will be all-Mexican and the event will run from 11 am to 7 pm. Tickets are $5, but all donations will be welcomed.

Don’t worry, you’ve still got four months for your holiday shopping, but Santa needs to hire a few helpers. The annual Polar Express on the V & T is getting ready to steam up and they are auditioning for elves etc. to lend a hand. The Nevada Arts Council has a new exhibit featuring Basque artwork; attend this evening’s artist reception to learn more about these unusual carvings. The ESL at Home program works quietly behind the scenes to bring better English language skills to non-native speakers.

Training is from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in the Pine Nut Room of the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Light snacks will be served.
The commitment to tutor a non-English speaking person is 1-2 hrs/week according to your schedule. There are adult learners waiting for help with speaking, reading and writing English.
