November is Diabetes Awareness month. Throughout the month, Carson Tahoe Health will be hosting a variety of FREE classes and events to raise awareness and offer support. All classes and events will be located at the Health & Wellness Institute (1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250).

Carson Valley Medical Center Registered Dietitian Renie Tharp will host a free seminar and healthful luncheon entitled "Putting Diabetes Type II and Pre-diabetes In Perspective," Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m. (lunch served at 12:30 p.m.)

The class, Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP), is a licensed diabetes self-management education curriculum developed by the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Federal court rejects Big Pharma request to halt Nevada insulin transparency law implementation

A federal court judge Tuesday denied a request by pharmaceutical industry representatives to preliminarily enjoin Nevada’s first-in-the-nation insulin transparency law, rejecting arguments that the law would cause immediate and irreparable harm to manufacturers of diabetes drugs.

From 11am-12pm Linda Bundy will discuss targeting the 8 Core Defects in Type 2 Diabetes and how it improves outcomes, attitudes, and self – esteem, (discuss use of GLP-1 and SGLT2 medication for better diabetes control.) From 12pm-1pm Kim Mason, RD and dietitian staff will talk about Mind over Meal, how your brain tricks you into eating more, with intro to Intuitive eating.
