I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

SATURDAY:

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. The Senior Follies have taken over the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater. Kids won’t want to miss the Capitol City Triathlon: swim, bike, and run your way to the winner’s circle. Celebrate community at the second annual Sassabration and don't forget your bathing suit: the Carson Hot Springs will be free from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Find a feline friend at the Nevada Humane Society’s free adoption weekend. Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. Head to Mills Park for the First Annual Polynesian Festival in the Marv Teixeira Pavillion. Glen Eagles welcomes back the Regional Chili Cook-off this weekend; get your fill of some amazing grub and help raise funds for Honor Flight Nevada. Holy moly. Carson City is hopping with fun times for everyone. Enjoy Saturday downtown with the Third and Curry Farmers Market, the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, and a free concert at the Brewery Arts Center. Mills Park features the return of the RSVP Carnival with rides, food, booths, games, and more.

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

SATURDAY:

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Empty Bowls could use a creative hand or two Saturday. More than 500 bowls need to be decorated for this year’s event that coincides with the Silver and Snowflake Tree Lighting event.

Stop by the Empty Bowls booth at the Third and Curry Farmers Market and make your artistic mark on an empty, unadorned bowl from 8:30 a.m. until they run out of the 50 bowls they bring.

Let’s go to the Fair, Carson City. Mills Park is hopping with activity: a carnival, car show, exhibits, music, and a return of the Rendezvous. If you have kids, don’t miss this month’s Young Eagle Flights at the Carson Airport, just make sure to sign up by 8 a.m. Start your day at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, and don’t forget to make your artistic mark on a handcrafted bowl for the Empty Bowls event. The Brewery Arts Center, in partnership with the Municipality of Carson City and the Levitt Amp Foundation, is introducing a brand-new live music concert series to the Nevada state capital starting Saturday, June 4 and running ten consecutive weeks through August 6.

Join Animal Ark and 15 Midtown businesses for a one-of-a-kind art show during the Midtown Safari Art Walk, May 20 through June 12. Each business has created their own unique art piece by decorating canvases to represent both their business and an Animal Ark ambassador for inspiration. The Midtown Safari Ark Walk is a free event. On a sun dappled porch, Julie Grady of Due Sorella, a local home décor store, poured coffee and served scones to guests gathered to discuss the store’s 10th anniversary party from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, featuring food, live music and door prizes.

Spring has sprung. Days getting longer, flowers blooming, and now Easter weekend is upon us. Egg hunts, brunches, and even a parade are all part of the fun. Take a look at this weekend’s event summary for family fun, live music, and much more.

Easter bonnets, baskets, eggs, and bunnies are about to descend, and here is a sneak peek at where to find the fun. Most all of the egg hunts are free, but I've made sure to include an entry price if one exists.

SATURDAY, March 26:

Celebrate Easter at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (10am-4pm; Storytime at 11am; special crafts and egg hunt; $6 adults, children free)

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down Medical Parkway. The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

WEDNESDAY:

The spring thaw has arrived, and my event list is getting longer. Carson City has some fun stuff happening this weekend, so please take a look. If you haven’t made it to see Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Disney’s The Aristocats, Kids, or the Carson High spring musical, ‘Kiss Me, Kate.’ what are you waiting for? Keep your eyes peeled for Girl Scouts, this is the last weekend of cookie sales.

Carson Tahoe Health is excited to present its fourth annual EGGstravaganza, a family-oriented Easter celebration open to the community. The free event takes place on Wednesday, March 23 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the Sage Café at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, in collaboration with the Navy League of the United States Carson City Council, presented Gov. Sandoval with a commemorative coin depicting both the recently christened USNS Carson City and the historic USS Carson City, a Tacoma-class frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.

What initially began as a holiday party for Carson Tahoe Health employees and their families has grown to include organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada through the efforts of the CTH events committee headed by Kayleen Fogleman, director of supply chain management.

CTH provided treats and activities, including decorating enormous sugar cookies, writing letters to Santa, mingling with Carson City firefighters and a visit with Santa at the annual Carson Tahoe Health Kids Christmas Party in the main hall of the hospital Dec. 10.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. The temperatures will be brisk, but nothing a scarf and sweater can’t help guard against. The real cold shows up late Sunday and brings with it a good chance for snow. Mary Poppins would advise we bear it with a spoon full of sugar.

Are you ready for this? Nevada Day weekend has arrived and brings with it a downtown filled with friends, neighbors, and fun. Hot air balloons, the annual beard contest, the parade, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, and more make this time of year amazing. The carnival at Mills Park, and the Pow-Wow at the Carson Colony take the festivities to the next level.

Students in Carson City School District are on spring break this coming week. School resumes on Monday, April 13. The week that they return from break will be extremely busy for leadership students, as they will be decorating for three major events to be held April 16, 17, and 18.

The sun is shining, the flowers blooming, the birds chirping, the wind gusting, and Carson City is hopping! Easter fun can be found this weekend at the annual EGGstravaganza at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, the Children’s Museum, the Carson Mall, and the Brewery Arts Center.

Head over to Mills Park for the Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, complete with military vehicles, exhibits, and more. For demonstrations from soldiers with an even older history, the Nevada Civil War Volunteers will be in Dayton Saturday.

In the early morning hours of January 2, 2015 Verl passed away, peacefully of natural causes, while residing at the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carson City, NV. He was 100 years old.

Verl was born on November 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, one of three children born to Howard and Janie May Means.

Whether you are young or old, Christmas is an enjoyable time of the year. Christmas has always been and will always be very special to me. It has been a holiday occasion that, through the years, our family has enjoyed here in Carson City or at the Quilici Cabin near Davis Lake, Calif.

Hello, Carson City! The holiday season is in full swing with tree lightings, craft fairs, Santa sightings all around the area. Every week, I create a list of the fun stuff and events going on around the Carson City area for my Facebook page, I love Carson City. I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, keep my ear to the ground, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community.

Freya Resler, 6, creates some art at the Carson City Library Monday at its Halloween costume party and mini-pumpkin decorating event. The all-ages gathering featured plenty of costumed kids and prizes.

The library will host safe trick-or-treating on Thursday, Oct. 30. Trick-or-treaters should visit each service desk for a holiday goodie while supplies last.

The witching season is upon us, and I love Carson City has come up with a comprehensive list of all the fun to be had in the Carson City area.

Carson City Library will host a Halloween Costume Party and Mini-Pumpkin Decorating event in the youth department on Monday, Oct. 27 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. All ages are welcome. Bring your own mini-pumpkin to decorate; decorating supplies will be provided. A costume contest will highlight the fun-filled event and prizes will be awarded. Costumes are encouraged but must be age appropriate.
