It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Head to Mills Park for the First Annual Polynesian Festival in the Marv Teixeira Pavillion. Glen Eagles welcomes back the Regional Chili Cook-off this weekend; get your fill of some amazing grub and help raise funds for Honor Flight Nevada. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Empty Bowls bowl decorating at the Third and Curry Farmers Market

Stop by the Empty Bowls booth at the Third and Curry Farmers Market and make your artistic mark on an empty, unadorned bowl from 8:30 a.m. until they run out of the 50 bowls they bring.

The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

Carson City Mayor, Navy League present commemorative medallion to Gov. Sandoval

Sandoval with a commemorative coin depicting both the recently christened USNS Carson City and the historic USS Carson City, a Tacoma-class frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.
Carson-Tahoe Health helps Santa create a happy holiday with local youth
Submitted by Leonard Wyatt on Sat, 12/12/2015 - 9:47amWhat initially began as a holiday party for Carson Tahoe Health employees and their families has grown to include organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada through the efforts of the CTH events committee headed by Kayleen Fogleman, director of supply chain management.
CTH provided treats and activities, including decorating enormous sugar cookies, writing letters to Santa, mingling with Carson City firefighters and a visit with Santa at the annual Carson Tahoe Health Kids Christmas Party in the main hall of the hospital Dec. 10.

The real cold shows up late Sunday and brings with it a good chance for snow. Mary Poppins would advise we bear it with a spoon full of sugar.

Hot air balloons, the annual beard contest, the parade, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, and more make this time of year amazing. The carnival at Mills Park, and the Pow-Wow at the Carson Colony take the festivities to the next level.
SATURDAY: PARADE DAY!
- Nevada Day Classic 8K Run/Walk (same day registration: $40 from 6:30am-7:30am on the second floor of the Carson Nugget Casino; 8am racers begin at Telegraph Square: W. Telegraph and N. Curry Streets; costumes encouraged)

Senator Square: Spring break arrives for Carson City School District

The week that they return from break will be extremely busy for leadership students, as they will be decorating for three major events to be held April 16, 17, and 18.

Easter fun can be found this weekend at the annual EGGstravaganza at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, the Children’s Museum, the Carson Mall, and the Brewery Arts Center.
Head over to Mills Park for the Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, complete with military vehicles, exhibits, and more. For demonstrations from soldiers with an even older history, the Nevada Civil War Volunteers will be in Dayton Saturday.
Verl Kately Means
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/08/2015 - 7:42pmIn the early morning hours of January 2, 2015 Verl passed away, peacefully of natural causes, while residing at the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carson City, NV. He was 100 years old.
Verl was born on November 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, one of three children born to Howard and Janie May Means.

I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, keep my ear to the ground, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community.
Warming up for Halloween at the Carson City Library

The library will host safe trick-or-treating on Thursday, Oct. 30. Trick-or-treaters should visit each service desk for a holiday goodie while supplies last.

All ages are welcome. Bring your own mini-pumpkin to decorate; decorating supplies will be provided. A costume contest will highlight the fun-filled event and prizes will be awarded. Costumes are encouraged but must be age appropriate.
