Today is National Lazy Day, and the options for taking it easy are endless. A day spent poolside at Carson Hot Springs, lunch and some live music at Comma Coffee, or just playing some board games with the family at Nerdvana are all good ideas. Dancing the night away is always a fun start to the week, even if it’s not lazy. Check out Rosebud’s Dance Band in the Comma Coffee Courtyard, or head to El Charro Avita for High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s weekly night out. Dachshund lovers may want to head to Fuji Park for the Silver State Sausage Society Sausage Social: try saying that one five times fast.

After the Friday wind and rain, we are supposed to see some clear skies: but don’t quote me on that. You know how the weather here can be. The Third and Curry Farmers Market vendors are tough, though, so your weekly dose of fresh produce will be waiting for you either way. Don’t miss the autumn plant sale at the Greenhouse Project booth. The Carson City Historical Society hosts their second yard sale of the season at the historic Forman-Roberts House on North Carson Street, so have fun treasure hunting.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

Hot August Nights is off and running in Reno, but there’s no need to leave the valley for a good time. Tahoe Ridge Bistro and Winery is hosting its monthly ladies night. You won’t want to miss DJ Bobby G at Living the Good Life. The Brewery Arts Center Improv Workshop welcomes a special guest: instructor and actor, Michael Lewis. Dancers will want to head to El Charro for Salsa lessons or Beercade for their weekly Line Dancing Night.

The Mile High Jazz Band is delighted to present the 12th Jazz & Beyond Festival from August 7 - 23. To help launch the citywide music festival, Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will host artists selling their art at the Bliss Mansion prior to the 7pm concert. The art sale will take place Friday, August 7 from 3-6:30pm on the porch, 608 Elizabeth Street, Carson City. The free events include art for sale, music, food, and a lovely home and garden to tour. The public is cordially invited.

If the workweek is getting you down, you have multiple options for breaking the monotony today. Jazz at Sassafras and a music Jam at Firkin and Fox are just for starters. Get your brain going at ‘Geeks Who Drink’ trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company and wish your host Mikey a happy birthday. Hot August Nights and warm August days have arrived. Beat the heat inside one of Carson City’s many art exhibits. The Nevada Artists Association has just begun their Photography Show. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center to see it. If you haven’t been to the Courthouse lately, Capital City Arts Initiative has done an incredible job of showcasing some of the unseen craftsmanship that our local manufacturers create on a regular basis. You’ll find Industrial Arts on the second floor. The arts meet engineering at the Carson City Library. Students from Harvard and MIT will be on-hand to teach kids about various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles as part of the Spokes America Learning Festival.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Let’s all go to the Fair! The grand opening and ribbon cutting is at Fuji Park at noon. Funnel cakes, clowns, rabbits, circus games and more await. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off tonight with music and more before it moves on to its traditional place at Mills Park. Jelly Bread is in town and playing a free show at Sassafras, and celebrate your July birthday at the Carson Cigar Bar with their monthly birthday bash.

Just a few last days to celebrate National Anti-Boredom Month, and you’re in the right place! Start with a relaxing soak at the Carson Hot Springs. Head over to Comma Coffee for some Americana blues with Dave Leather. Rack ‘em up at the Ormsby Club, or congratulate Tahoe Ridge Winery at their ribbon cutting. Jazz fans can head to Sassafras for dinner and music. The outdoor patio at Firkin and Fox is the perfect place to listen to music and enjoy a locally crafted beer. It’s a wine walk weekend, the Nevada Fair is in town, and classic cars will be everywhere as the Silver Dollar Car Classic rolls into town. Take a moment and enjoy today for what it is: a gorgeous sunny day in Northern Nevada. Head over to El Charro Avita if you’ve always wanted to learn to swing dance. Take the kids to a puppet performance of Aladdin at the Library. Or head to Carson Lanes for their one dollar bowling special and stick around for some line dancing.

Dust off your bowler hat, lace up your high-heeled boots and join us for the first ever Tall Timber Ball. On Oct. 9 from 6-10 pm you can style it steampunk or go grunge and join us under the timber beams of Valhalla’s Grand Hall while the DJ spins from the massive stone fireplace. Cool prizes will go to the most interesting looks of the night. This event kicks off the inaugural Tahoe WordWave festival and will benefit art and culture in South Lake Tahoe.

Seventy-five years ago today, Bugs Bunny made his cinematic debut. Plenty of other animals will be in the spotlight starting Thursday when the Nevada Fair hits Fuji Park. In addition to the free events like the circus, animal shows, and live music, there will be some special events that require tickets. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center on North Carson St. for pre-sale tickets to Bulls and Broncs, the Tractor Pull, or a discounted wristband for a day at the carnival. Just a few more days to wait before Fuji Park is the place to be.

Can you believe it? It’s the last weekend of July and the kids will be headed back to school in no time. Don’t be dismayed though, plenty of summer fun can still be found. Sign the kids up for the Capital City Kids’ Triathlon at the Carson Aquatic Center. Head out to Mills Park for a few laps on the train or a picnic. Don’t miss out on making a bowl for the Empty Bowls project at the Farmers Market; or let the kids run off to the bounce house while you make a bowl yourself.

The Silver State’s own crooner and classic country cowboy, Rick J. Radecki of Carson City, stops in at Casino Fandango to help celebrate the entertainment, food, and gambling icon’s 12th anniversary.

This fourth Thursday of July has been declared National Refreshment Day; teamed up with National Hot Dog Day and Vanilla Ice Cream Day, today should be yummy. More good eats can be found at the Farmers Market in Dayton. All you can eat wings at Firkin and Fox is a popular way to spend a Thursday, or sample something exotic at curry-tasting at Foodies Bystro inside the Brewery Arts Center.

A highlight of the 2015 Jazz & Beyond Festival will be a two-part Motown special. First is a free lecture-demonstration by musician-educator John Shipley. It will feature music, visuals, a guitar raffle, a no-host bar, and a guest appearance by Lloyd Williams of Otis Day and the Knights on Monday, August 17, at the Brewery Arts Center.

The second part of the Motown special is a ticketed concert showcasing Williams, the original singing voice from the hit movie Animal House, on Tuesday, August 18, 7 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

Looking for some fun? Swing dance lessons for beginners are at El Charro’s. Line Dance lessons are just around the corner at Carson Lanes if you prefer. Meet author Jack Harpster at the Carson City Library. He’ll have copies of his book ‘Lumber Baron of the Comstock Lode: The Life and Times Duane L. The 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe was the scene of the Korbel Hole-in-One contest Friday at the American Century Championship, bringing together some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment to help raise money for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

Happy Friday, Carson City. We made it through another week and are now rewarded with another beautiful summer weekend. There are some great musicians in town tonight. The first anniversary celebration at Living the Good Life features Toree McGee in her first Nevada appearance. Sassafras is proud to host Wake Eastman and his special brand of outlaw honky-tonk.
