Annual Carson High Holiday Craft Fair Nov. 21 and 22
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 1:59amCarson High School will be hosting its annual Craft Fair this weekend, Friday, Nov. 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for children and K-12 students. For adults admission Friday is $2 and allows re-entry on Saturday; Saturday's admission is $1.50, with a discount if you bring something non-perishable for their food drive.
Senator Square: Carson High celebrates 20th annual Holiday Craft Fair this weekend

Come spend some time – great food, entertainment, a raffle, Santa, book sale, and of course, amazing and unique gifts for everyone. Admission for adults on Friday evening is only $2 and includes a raffle ticket as well as re-entry privileges on Saturday.

Holiday Craft Fair season kicks-off Saturday

Comstock Mobile Village Craft and Rummage Sale located on College Parkway across from the Carson Airport from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 20 vendors will be offering hand-made goods, food, and rummage. Free coffee will help keep you warm.

This year, we are expecting a cold one. Have no fear, however, there will be plenty of places to grab some grub, coffee, hot chocolate, bloody marys, or shelter from the rain while you watch the balloons lift off at 8 a.m. or wait for the 10 a.m. parade.

The first ever Nevada Day Steampunk Ball, a costume fundraiser for ages 18-plus, is at the Carson Nugget Ballroom Friday from 7 p.m to midnight.
Senator Square: Carson High senior Caden Lehman wins national rodeo event
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/26/2014 - 9:06amCaden Lehman, a senior at Carson High School, an officer for the Capitol FFA program, and an officer in the Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo Club, recently had his biggest win doing what he loves. He is involved in Team Roping and Calf Roping and is a member of the American Cowboys Team Roping Association.
Recently at the ACTRA National Finals in Reno at the Livestock Events Center, Caden won the Super 7 National Championship, landing him and his partner, Jack Curry of Gardnerville, each new Royal T 3-horse trailers, buckles, and $10,000 cash.

Carson City International Film Festival to roll in February
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/21/2014 - 5:48pmWestern Nevada College is looking for student and independent filmmakers to submit their work for possible viewing at the upcoming Carson City International Film Festival. The event is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 5-7, 2015.
To be considered for the competition, filmmakers must submit an original video of up to 90 minutes in length and in DVD format to WNC by Monday, Dec. 1, 2014.

RSVP Nevada Day celebration and carnival to celebrate Silver State's 150th birthday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/26/2014 - 11:41amFor the 29th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. will sponsor the Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park on Oct. 30 through Nov. 2, 2014, RSVP executive director Susan Haas announced Friday.
Earlier this year RSVP went all out over July 4 with a spectacular fireworks display, synchronized to music, to mark Nevada’s Sesquicentennial. For Nevada Day weekend, visitors can expect plenty of games, thrilling carnival rides and entertainment venues.
“We will have a lot more family fun and entertainment than ever before this year,” said Haas.
Historic radio series that chronicles Nevada folklife now online for Nevada 150 celebration

In celebration of the state’s 150th birthday, the full 13-episode series “Home Means Nevada 1986: Folklife in the Silver State” has been digitized.

Baldini's Casino breaks ground on High Sierra Brewery, Tim Mason named head brewer
Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/11/2014 - 6:29amBaldini’s Casino in Sparks has begun work on its latest addition, High Sierra Brewery, a 15-barrel brew house and restaurant slated to open in the fall of 2014.
Development of the brewery is the result of a partnership between Baldini’s and High Sierra Brewing Company owner Jim Phalan. Together, Phalan and Baldini’s General Manager Craig Soper have recruited award-winning brewer Tim Mason as Head Brewer for the new establishment. The brewery relocated after leaving Carson City earlier this year.

As many of you may have heard a favorite, downtown restaurant, Sassafras is being forced to relocate. The word spread throughout our community and one question was being asked “how can we help?”
I had a chance to attend a meeting of volunteers from the community to help organize a benefit to help Save our Sassafras. I then asked Owner, Scott Owen Doerr, what he wanted people to know. This is what he had to say:

Beer and barbecue festival Saturday at Lake Tahoe's MontBleu
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 6:23pmBeer lovers don’t have to wait until fall to celebrate the region’s finest microbrews. MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa will roll out barrels from dozens of area brewmasters Saturday, Aug. 9 for the first Tahoe Craft BeerFest.
With more than 45 brewers on tap and plenty of barbecue, live music, games, and competition, the festival will be a summer celebration of frosty, sudsy, hoppy handcrafted brews made around California and Nevada.
Dayton Valley Days calls for crafters, vendors

Dayton Valley Days is scheduled Sept. 20 and 21 with an expected attendance over 15,000.

Tasters go for the bold and zesty during first day of Carson City chili cook-off
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/12/2014 - 2:42pmLots of shady trees, a nice gentle breeze and plenty of ice cold beer were enough to keep the heat down a notch Saturday at the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-Off and Craft Fair in Carson City.
The two-day event at Glen Eagles Restaurant, which continues through Sunday, has brought dozens of the best chili cookers from around the region hoping for a chance to win prize money, bragging rights and a trip to Las Vegas for the World Chili Cook-off Championship. The public is invited to Sunday's event and sampling costs next to nothing, organizers said.
Regional Chili cookoffs, craft fair this weekend at Glen Eagles
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 07/10/2014 - 1:41pmGet it while it's hot this Saturday and Sunday in Carson City. The Honor Flight Nevada program and Glen Eagles will host the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-Off and Craft Fair this weekend.
International Chili Society chefs will compete for a chance to go to the World Cook-Off in Las Vegas. The public is invited to sample red and verde chili as well as salsas. Tasting kits are $3 each.
The "People's Choice" Chili award will be determined by the vote collected by everyone who samples.
