Thinking about getting breakfast tomorrow morning? Join the Carson City Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast Club at Costco Wholesale on June 5, beginning at 7:30 A.M. until 8:30 A.M. This event will have plenty to offer, so come stop by to check those offers out! The cost is $5 for Chamber members, $15 for non-members. The Breakfast Club will be located at 700 Old Clear Creek Road.

Carson City Chamber of Commerce Home and Garden Show at Carson Mall

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce's Home and Garden Show will take place on April 28 at the Carson Mall. The show begins at 10 a.m. with ribbon cutting by Mayor Robert Crowell & Chamber Board of Directors.

Carson City IHOP shooting: South Lake Tahoe woman among those killed, husband wounded

Florence Donovan Gunderson and her husband Wally Gunderson, part-time residents of South Lake Tahoe, were having breakfast at IHOP in Carson City Tuesday morning when a gunman shattered their lives forever.

According to a family friend, Florence was killed inside the restaurant, along with three Nevada National Guard members, while Wally was wounded. A man interviewed by KRNV 4 described how he applied first aid to Wally, while his wife was obviously killed instantly.

Tahoe Author Book Signing in Carson City

On Saturday, Aug. 20, Tahoe author Janet Smith will be at the Costco in Carson City from 11-2pm for a book signing of the new anthology “Permanent Vacation: Twenty Writers on Work and Life in Our National Parks.” The collection, published by Bona Fide Books, features Smith’s piece “Pretty Enough,” a compelling account of coming of age in one of the world’s wonders, Yosemite Valley.

Cooperative Extension continues to work with Carson City to gather input from the public regarding priorities in public services. As we are all faced with shrinking budgets, it's vital that those charged with providing you services know what is important to you.

We are hosting three final Public Input Sessions:

  • Monday April 11 5:30 p.m., Sheriff's Office, 911 Musser Street
  • Wednesday April 13 5:30 p.m., Library, 900 North Roop Street
  • Thursday April 14 7:00 p.m., Business Resource Center, 108 East Proctor Street

Carson City car enthusiasts show and shine for cancer-stricken teen

Friday night shined in all shapes, sizes and hearts for McKenna Mitchell, a Carson City teen stricken with bone cancer. While McKenna wasn't able to attend because of chemotherapy treatments, Carson City put on a car show the 14-year-old girl would be proud of. The event was held at Kragen-O'Reilly's.

There were 66 entries in the Show and Shine, with all proceeds going to help McKenna's family with medical costs, according to organizers Holly and Kenson Seymour.

Carson City gas prices drop an average of a nickel since August

Gas prices in Carson City appear to be about three cents higher a gallon than the statewide average of $2.84, as reported by monthly figures compiled by AAA. The good news is that capital city gas prices have dropped about a nickel from last month.

Power outage shuts off traffic lights on South Carson

Update 6:30 — Traffic lights on South Carson from Koontz Lane to Old Clear Creek Road were out for a couple of hours this afternoon due to a power outage.

We have confirmed that power was restored to the area at about 6:15, and all traffic lights are working now.

St. Theresa of Avila Basque Festival is a Carson City fall favorite

Early fall in the Carson City wouldn’t be complete without St. Teresa of Avila’s famous Basque Festival. To honor the rich traditions of Northern Nevada’s Basque heritage, this daylong event is held the third Sunday of September, and has grown into a community-wide celebration. Several thousand people attend the Basque Festival each year, enjoying the authenticity of fantastic food, events, and entertainment. Quite simply there isn’t a better way to spend an autumn Sunday!

Man who called himself 'Jesus' faces assault and battery charges in Carson City

A 40-year-old California man who called himself "Jesus" before allegedly punching another man in the mouth and flashing a knife was arrested by Carson City authorities on Sunday.
Lary Robert Welch of Rio Dell, Calif., faces a felony assault charge and misdemeanor battery, obstruction and drunken pedestrian charges. Bail was set at $21,606.
According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the area of Idaho Street and Sheffield Manor at about 9:30 p.m. after a report of a fight that involved a knife.

Shopping center tenants vow to continue after Carson City anchor store leaves

Of the 27 businesses that front the Plaza 50 in Carson City, home of the anchor store Sak N' Save, many of its merchants are now left to gauge how their own operations will change after learning the grocery store will close its doors for good on May 30.

But the show will go on for many of the merchants, who vow to put their best face on an otherwise bad situation. Much like the recession has been thus far in the capital city, the collective wisdom remains "hope for the best."

Carson City Fire Department plans May 2 evacuation and shelter drill

CARSON CITY — An evacuation and sheltering exercise for the residents of the Old Clear Creek Road subdivision will be from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2, Carson City Fire Department officials announced today.

The evacuation drill in the southwest part of Carson City is being carried out in conjunction with Nevada’s 5th Annual Wildfire Awareness Week. The intention is to remind residents and homeowners that the area is within a wildland fire environment and therefore all are encouraged to protect their homes and community from embers that can attack dry brush and trees during a wildfire.

This little news bite from Kurt Hildebrand's Morning Report is so bizarre that I had to highlight it. I don't even think there's any comment I could make to enhance it.

According to Thursday's commission packet, someone apparently thought the Costco was in Douglas County for the last three years and shipped $434,740 of Carson City's gas taxes south.

City Supervisor Pete Livermore files for Assembly District 40

Carson City Supervisor Pete Livermore has filed for the Republican nomination for Assembly District 40. Livermore, 68, is termed out after 12 years on the Board of Supervisors.
