Supervisor Jim Shirk column: Deep Thoughts, Cheap Shots and Bonbons

“To get along, one must go along.” All too often I have heard this in the last two years. For me, the epiphany of understanding this phrase came in my second year when I realized nothing is going to change, not even this phrase. Puzzling to me is why some think there is a need to build a political consensus; yet, they build a political Berlin Wall and stand behind it saying, “it ain’t me causing this.”

Care Flight called after teen injured in accident at William and Saliman

UPDATE: The juvenile driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a teenager on a bicycle going across William Street was cited for causing the accident, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

The accident isn’t related to the traffic diversions coming off of Saliman onto William Street. The driver appeared to not be paying attention as the teen bicyclist was going across the street with a right-of-way and the teen motorist striking him when making a left hand turn at the flashing yellow arrow light, said Sloan. The bicyclist was struck in the No. 1 lane and there wasn’t a blind spot.

“It was driver inattention causing the accident,” he said.

The condition of the injured teen is unknown. He was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with a laceration to the head. The collision caused the teen on the bicycle to go into the windshield of the vehicle, said Sloan.
