CARSON CITY — Do you love Nevada history, and, more importantly, do you love sharing that knowledge with others? If so, the Nevada State Museum has a perfect opportunity.

The museum is recruiting for volunteers, who will get a multi-day in-depth jaunt through the museum’s collections and operations.

The Nevada State Museum was voted the best museum in rural Nevada by the readers of Nevada Magazine in 2018. It couldn’t have received that recognition without the cadre of volunteers who help out on a daily basis, said Director Myron Freedman.

According to the Carson City Board of Supervisors and Board of Health agenda for the upcoming Feb. 21 meeting, the University of Nevada, Reno Police will begin staffing the Western Nevada Campus by July 1, 2019 in an Interlocal Agreement for operational support between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the University of Nevada, Reno Police Services.

The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, "The Felt Works," by artist Svea Ferguson at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery.

CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, February 8 from 5-7 p.m.; the artist will give a brief talk about her work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from February 8–May 03, 2019.

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City is bringing the heat with The Fire Scottish Music Band this Saturday, Jan. 19 in the MHJ Black Box Theater at 7 p.m.

The Tri-County (Lyon, Douglas, Carson City) Gang Unit conducted a traffic stop shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday in Carson City that resulted in a substantial seizure of methamphetamine, as well as items used for the trafficking and sale of drugs.

Approaching Christmas Day, Vitalant in Northern Nevada, formerly United Blood Services, is aiming to collect more than 3,500 donations in December to increase the community blood supply. The CHS Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Brian Fox, is back from its spring trip to the Bay Area. The Chamber Orchestra competed in the Forum Music Festival at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, earning a gold rating from the adjudicators; the top rating.

National cable and satellite television network C-SPAN is returning to the Nevada state capital this Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12 to engage the community through interactive demonstrations of its public service resources, a C-SPAN press release said.

Lodging properties in Carson City saw a nearly 27 percent increase in revenue in 2017 — the highest in the city’s history — according to numbers released Monday by the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority.

The percentage of obese children in Nevada is rising, and nearly one-third of children entering kindergarten are considered overweight or obese.
