The Fire is a high energy pure-drop Scottish music band that features world class fiddling in combination with bagpipes, guitar, bodhran, whistle, and bouzouki. The group includes, International Scottish Fiddle Champion Rebecca Lomnicky, multi-instrumentalist David Brewer of the popular Celtic band Molly’s Revenge, and Adam Hendey on guitar and bouzouki.

Members of the trio have each spent copious amounts of time delving into the traditions of their respective instruments, having lived and studied in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the highlands of Scotland. Together, The Fire performs captivating Scottish music which bridges the gap between the fiddle and bagpipe music of Scotland — two worlds united, into a heartfelt and rousing musical experience.

Between their entertaining and informative stage banter, vast array of instrument combinations and extensive repertoire, including everything from soaring slow airs to intricately arranged dance tunes, these charismatic performers will leave you on your feet with your hands together. The Fire is based out of Santa Cruz, California, and has released three studio albums. For more about The Fire, including music videos, please visit: www.firescottishband.com

The Fire are: Rebecca Lomnicky
In 2005, Rebecca won the Junior Division of the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Competition, and in 2009 she won the 20th Annual Glenfiddich International Scottish Fiddle Championship held at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Scotland. This past October, Rebecca returned to Blair Castle to perform at a televised celebration featuring all former Glenfiddich Champions. Rebecca is also an accredited fiddle adjudicator, and judged last year’s fiddle competition at the Portland Highland Games.

David Brewer is a multi-instrumentalist who has toured with the Scottish super-group The Old Blind Dogs, and with Molly's Revenge across the US, the UK, Canada, China, and Australia. He has been a special guest of the six-time Grammy winning group The Chieftains, and was a key musician for the sound track of the PBS documentary, “Andrew Jackson: Good, Evil, and the Presidency.” David is unarguably one of the most energetic and charismatic performers of the bagpipes in the world today.

Adam Hendey brings a rich layer of guitar and bouzouki to the group’s sound. Since beginning to play at 13 years of age, Adam has dedicated himself to the music of Scotland and Ireland, and has a Masters Degree in traditional music performance from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The Fire has headlined main stages at Celtic festivals and venues of all sizes throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Fire is currently based out of Santa Cruz, California, and has just released their third album together.

New Album Info: On August 14, 2018, The Fire released their 14 track album, "Radiance." The collection of tunes on "Radiance" draws from a variety of Scottish fiddle manuscripts, bagpipe music collections, and the pen of all three band members. "Radiance" showcases every aspect of The Fire’s stylistic expertise, technical prowess, and musical passion, and displays the dynamic interplay of fiddle and bagpipes for which Lomnicky and Brewer have become well known. Lomnicky’s internationally-awarded virtuosic fiddling is featured throughout on tracks ranging from an ancient, haunting Gaelic air titled “The Old Man,” to the delightful scotch-measure “Mr. McLaine’s” which was published in the first collection of Scottish fiddle tunes in 1700.

Brewer’s technical mastery of the bagpipe and whistle, as well as his incomparable expertise on bodhran, are featured in traditional tunes as well as his own compositions, such as the sparkling whistle set “The Golden Anniversary” and bagpipe medley “Chasing Down the Sun.” "Radiance" also showcases several of Hendey’s compositions including “The Prodigal Son” and “Goodbye Eugene” which display an innovative contemporary approach to traditional music.

Hendey’s playing perfectly complements Lomnicky and Brewer’s dynamic melodies with both sensitive and dramatic guitar lines, layers of contrapuntal bouzouki harmony, and rich harmonium textures. With its traditional roots and contemporary spirit, "Radiance" paves the way for the future of Scottish folk music.
