Love on a Leash at the Carson City Library will give them a chance to practice their reading skills with a non-judgmental furry friend. Celebrate the Asian New Year with crafts and music at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting a steady increase of positive Influenza flu cases. Overall, Carson City, Lyon and Douglas counties saw 27 cases testing positive for influenza.

About 59 percent of those tested were positive for Influenza strain B, which is a slightly higher percentage of this specific strain than was seen in previous years at this time. CCHHS encourages providers to continue to report positive influenza testing to the Health Department as it helps to monitor influenza activity.

Okay all you procrastinators, if you planned on making it to the Arlington Square Ice Rink, then today is your last chance. With a temperature around 50, it should be a perfect day to skate one last time. Show some Senator Pride tonight at the Community Center as 24 seniors compete for ‘Mr. Carson High.’ There’s a lot going on this weekend, so take a look at the list and go have some fun.

Feed your need for culture at the Brewery Arts Center where you’ll find Kenny Arnold’s exhibit ‘Free Your Soul.’ The Metropolitan Opera ‘Turandot’ plays live at the Galaxy Theater. Or enjoy Carson High School’s last performance of ‘And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank.’

• Free Basketball Handling Clinic for Kids at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC): 1870 Russell Way (7:30am-8:30am; sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club)
• Little League Registration at the Indoor Facility at Governor’s Field (8am-12pm; open to ages 4-18 as of Aug. 31, 2016 who live in Carson or attend Carson schools; bring original birth certificates and proof of residency)

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is hosting free basketball handling clinics for kids of all ages from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. every Saturday through March 26 at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will be making stops beginning next week around northern Nevada. There will screenings in Carson City, Virginia City, Yerington and Reno.

The mobile Mammovan aims to make mammography services accessible and convenient for women by visiting locations across Nevada. These screenings are primarily for women age 40 and older; however, screenings will be provided to those younger than 40 that have a physician referral.

January doesn’t have to be dreary. Just grab a coat and head out the door. Whether you want to rummage through antiques at Carson Mall, make crafts with the kids at the Children’s Museum, or enjoy some live music, you’ll find something to do on the list below.

It’s finally Friday, my fellow Carsonistas. The appraisal clinic is Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The price per item for appraisals is $5 and there is no limit to the number of items that can be appraised.

All month long you can help us to raise food in our community. Our clinic, in conjunction with our local Advocates to End Domestic Violence, are asking that you help us raise food for the families at this shelter by donating non-perishable items such as canned or dried foods, diapers, evaporated milk, etc. Make a donation of one bag of these items and you will receive a gift from our office as a special thank you from our community. Come join the fun.

A health services clinic through Remote Area Medical is happening now through Sunday in Carson City. Organizers said Friday that there is a shortage of health care professionals, including optometrists and any medical support doctors and nurses.

The clinic is being held at Carson High School. It is designed for children, families and the elderly who are without health care, dental health, and vision eye care. Hundreds are expected to participate during the three day free clinic.

The RAM Clinic begins today. It’s first come first served, so you’ll be in line a while if you’d like to be seen; bring something to snack on and entertain yourself with. Downtown will be the place to be tonight. Notch 8 will be making their first appearance in several months with a show at Westside Pour House. Carson Cigar is still celebrating its 20th birthday, so enjoy live music with Bread and Butter tonight. Comma Coffee will be filled with fun and laughter. The annual Tickled Pink World Dance Open Floor is including a lip sync contest for the first time, so it should be a good time had by all.

RAM is a non-profit organization providing free medical, dental and vision services to patients. The upcoming Carson City event will run October 16th, 2015 thru October 18th, 2015.

Clinic hours are Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th, 6 am till 4 pm, and Sunday, October 18th, 6 am till 1 pm. Dr.

Dr. Heather Parsons of Valley Pediatric Dentistry to volunteer at the upcoming Remote Area Medical (RAM) event in Carson City. RAM is a non-profit organization providing free medical, dental and vision services to patients. The upcoming Carson City event will run October 16th, 2015 thru October 18th, 2015.

Remote Area Medical, an organization dedicated to providing free, quality health care services, will host free pop-up clinics during the next two weekends for adults and children in Lyon County and Carson City.

There are no eligibility requirements and identification isn't necessary. Services are provided on a first come basis. The first pop-up clinic will be this weekend in Yerington, Oct. 9-11, and the second will be in Carson City the following weekend, Oct. 16-18.
