Senator Square: Carson High School teacher raises money for breast cancer awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this time every year touches the heart of one of the teachers at CHS: Art teacher Mike Malley, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, due to early detection, has decided to take breast cancer awareness to a new level by putting on a fundraising event Oct. 18 at the Trimmer Barn from 5 to 8 p.m.

The business is owned and run by Brad and Alina Paula and offers a complete health and fitness experience including massage, personal training, group classes, obstacle course and other specialty training programs, and nutritional coaching. The couple has been in business in Carson City for four years but only (since the first of the year) recently at their new space.

Last Wednesday, 34 juniors and seniors from Carson High School in Carson City took a tour of the University of Nevada, Reno campus and received their college identification cards. Senator Square: New technology policy at CHS

A new, yet not so new, technology policy at CHS has upset some and caused others to look at the potential benefits.

No longer are students allowed to possess their earbuds at school let alone use them during breaks or at lunch time. Accessing cell-phones during class may also result in confiscation, delivery to the office, and a call home to have the parent or guardian come and personally pick it up from the office.

More than 200 Carson City middle school HOSA students earn CPR certifications

CARSON CITY — More than 200 Carson Middle School future Health Occupations Students of America earned real-world healthcare certifications. Nearly all the students taking Ms. Victoria Jaacovi’s Introduction to HOSA class and Mr. Dayne Carmichael’s Sports Medicine class finished the 2018 school year certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, also known as CPR.
