Country music lovers didn’t let a few raindrops stop them from coming to see Easton Corbin on Friday night at TJ’s Corral as he opened the summer concert series at Carson Valley Inn in Minden, Nevada. . Man, does this town love its country.

As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

Here’s an events lineup of what's happening around the Carson City region for the 2019 Memorial Day weekend. More events will be added as information becomes available.

Heading into the middle of the work week, Wednesday, May 22, there's no short supply of places to go and things to do around Carson City. Sure you may want to pull out your parkas or sweaters for the day. All the more reason to take in those rays of sunshine when the clouds break. NNDA’s The Business Edge is a monthly educational series providing information on issues and trends of interest to the northern Nevada business community.

Easton Corbin will leave the woodshed and head West to open the summer concert series at Northern Nevada’s Carson Valley Inn.

The rising country artist will be the first to hit TJ’s Corral stage in 2019, playing at 8 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the start of Memorial Day Weekend.

Carson Valley Inn’s sixth summer concert announcement is smooth.

Kenny G, a smooth jazz superstar will perform in TJ’s Corral on Saturday, June 8. Tickets — $59 and $69 — go on sale Wednesday, April 10.

Local musician, Bill Wharton will be appearing at Carson Valley Inn, 1627 US Hwy 395 in Minden on Sunday, March 31st & Monday, April 1st from 6 to 10 PM in the Caberet Lounge. If you enjoy good music, then you will not be disappointed. Country, Jazz, Blues, and even some Pop. His repertoire is so versatile, he is a crowd favorite for all ages. So come on down and kick up your heels.

Two from California with warrants were arrested Monday outside the Walmart store in Gardnerville after leading Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle chase in which the stolen SUV they were driving was abandoned and found to contain 5 pounds of marijuana.

Friday night, just before the first days of fall, Carson Valley Inn Casino had added one last show to its summer concert series at TJ’s Corral. 38 Special came to our little Minden town to deliver all its hits in the sold-out venue.

August comes to an end today, and with it the end of an era. You are reading my last weekday list of things to do. Celebrate the unofficial end of summer with ‘Cruise Night’ at the Carson Mall, some great live music, or a comedy show.

It’s still Welcome Back Week at Western Nevada College; a free BBQ, games, activities, and meet and greet with the new college President will be in Rotary Square at lunchtime. Muscle Powered starts the day with a hike up Kings Canyon Road. In addition to sturdy shoes and water, you’ll want to bring a camera – the views of Eagle Valley are impressive. Start the weekend early with some live music for a good cause. Enjoy Greg Austin on the stage at Living the Good Life: there’s no cover, but a portion of tonight’s food and beverage sales will benefit the Swithwick/Francone family.
