Carson City area road construction report for July 5-11

Here is the Carson City area road report for Monday, July 5, through Sunday, July 11:
The Roop Street widening project will continue this week with the following impacts expected:
— Effective Thursday, July 8, Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from William Street to Robinson Street. This closure will last until Sept. 1.
—The intersection of Caroline Street and Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from Thursday, July 8 through Sept. 1. Traffic may cross Roop Street at Washington Street.

Pottery Place at The Children's Museum

Join in on the fun at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada beginning Saturday, July 3 and continuing Saturdays through summer with The Pottery Place.  There will be pottery painting for children, parents and walk-ins. The museum will also host special events, birthday parties and group events, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada  is located at 813 North Carson Street in Carson City. It's a beautiful day to be in Fuji Park looking at some beautiful cars. The Karson Kruzers 26th Annual Run What Cha Brung Car event is going on right now, so get on down there. Carson City road report for June 28 to July 4

Here is the road report for Monday, June 28 through Sunday, July 4:
Lane closures are expected to occur on Highway 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Clearview Drive during the night hours of 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., June 29-30, due to work on the median.

As a result of the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation project on the freeway, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

Seven Carson City businesses fail sheriff's office alcohol compliance check

An alcohol compliance check in the capital city on Monday led to seven businesses that failed to comply with the law concerning sales, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is reporting.

Those businesses were: Ormsby Club Bar at 600 S. Curry St., Dotty's Casino at 3771 South Carson St., Chevron at 1102 North Carson Street, Rand Convenience Story at 1800 Highway 50 East, AM/PM Arco at 4190 South Carson St., and Casino Fandango at 3800 South Carson St., and Bodines at 5650 South Carson St.

Confirmed: Tripped breaker caused lights to malfunction Saturday in Carson City

As suspected, it was a tripped breaker that prevented the lights on Carson Street from coming on automatically on Saturday night following the Taste of Downtown festivities, reports Scott Fahrenbruch, director of operations for the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, in an e-mail.

Carson City parks officials to investigate why street lights went dim Saturday night

If it seemed somewhat dark walking down Carson Street following a Taste of Downtown, that's because it was.
Lisa Lee, executive director of the Advocates to End Domestic Violence and coordinator of Taste of Downtown wanted to know why the rustic-looking street lights along Carson, Curry and Musser streets went dim as festivities wound down on Saturday night.
"It was very dark as people were walking. I got a lot of complaints," she said.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue fog sealing sections of roadway in the area. The following roadways will have lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting:
— Northbound Carson City Freeway from US 50 to East Lake Boulevard — Monday and Tuesday

Book signing, festivities this weekend at Comma Coffee in Carson City

There's a book signing from 11 to 3 today, Friday, at Comma Coffee, 312 Carson Street. Meet Bill Westbrook who will be there to sign his new book "Beyond Deceit, the Legacy of a Madman." The historical novel is described as an anti-Nazi, pro-America book.
On Friday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Comma Coffee there will be an Open Floor World Dance performance.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue fog sealing sections of US Highway 395/Carson City Freeway next week that will result in temporary closures of on and off ramps at some interchanges.
The following temporary ramp closures are expected, weather permitting:
— Carson Street off ramp, Monday, June 14
— Arrowhead Drive on ramp, College Parkway southbound off and on
ramp, Tuesday, June 15

Motorist arrested after drug-induced drive down Carson City sidewalk and streets

A vigilant motorist who saw a vehicle drive on a sidewalk and couldn't maintain a single lane of traffic early Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old construction worker who faces charges of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

2nd Annual Concert Under the Stars, Carson City Greenhouse Project Benefit

The summer heats up with the 2nd annual “Concert Under the Stars” July 14th behind Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City. Proceeds benefit Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. “Sons of Champlin” will headline the event. Led by former Chicago singer and band member Bill Champlin, the Sons are one of the pioneering bay area bands from the 1960s music scene and continue to rock audiences today. Local band Southpaw Freddie will open the show.

Carson City deputies arrest Sacramento man after finding meth during traffic stop

A Sacramento man faces drug trafficking, paraphernalia and other charges after Carson City sheriff's deputies found four grams of methamphetamine and smoking pipes inside his truck after a traffic stop.
Randall Velmar Berke, 54, was pulled over on a suspended registration early Wednesday morning at the corner of Carson Street and Fleischmann Way.
The arresting deputy learned from the suspect that he didn't have insurance and when his license was checked to see if he had warrants, the deputy learned it had been suspended.

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by award-winning poet Rita Geil and six other readers for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry on Tuesday, June 8. Here is the weekly road construction report for the Carson City area, today through June 6:
The Carson City micropaving project continues at various locations. Work will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the following locations over the course of the week, including Sunday, weather permitting.  A single lane will be maintained with flaggers:

— Koontz Lane from Hillview Drive to Center Drive, and from Carson Street to Curry Street.
— Winnie Lane from Ash Canyon Road to Mountain Street.
—  Ormsby Boulevard from King Street to 200 yards north of Washington Street.
