Carson City School District, trustees haul in awards at 2019 NASB Conference

The Carson City School District was a point of highlight at the Nevada Association of School Boards annual conference in Reno, the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The school district and trustees hauled in nearly a quarter of all the awards (4 out of 19) among the 17 districts statewide.

Senator Square: Carson City Schools Orchestra students prepare for Holiday Concert

The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

Nevada's Vegas Golden Knights to visit Carson City Schools for Hockey Clinics

Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights will be hosting Hockey Clinics at Schools in Carson City on Friday, Dec. 13, and a Watch Party is scheduled at the Governor’s Mansion to see the Knights Play the Dallas Stars.

Upcoming Carson City School Board Meeting to discuss Teacher School Supply Reimbursement

The Carson City School District will hold its next School Board Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The meeting with begin with the Superintendent’s Report, which includes the Seeliger Choir Holiday Performance, Recognition of Ms. Jennifer Cherpeski for her years of service on the Family Life Committee, and general announcements.

Festival of Lights, Project Empty Bowls, Santa train and more: Carson City region readies for festive weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! For the Grownups: Holiday Crawl Saturday in downtown Carson City to benefit Holiday with a Hero

With family activities making up the Christmas tree lighting at the capitol on Friday night, Saturday night is reserved for grownups who are invited to take a festive walk through downtown Carson City and make stops and their favorite restaurants and bars as part of a community fundraiser for local schoolchildren who are without permanent homes.

Carson City Schools closed Monday due to storm, WNC also cancels classes

The Carson City School District has canceled school Monday after announcing a two-hour delay earlier this morning. The storm, which has intensified, caused the closure.

All Carson City School District employees, students and teachers should remain home. No student activities or programs will occur. This includes after school programs, practices, performances and contests including interscholastic athletic events, according to the district.

No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.

A winter storm continues to bring a mixture of rain and heavy wet snow to the valley floor Monday morning, making for school and commute delays around the Carson City region.

UPDATE 8:59AM: All Schools in Carson City will be closed for the entire day today, Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, due to winter related conditions. All employees, students and teachers should remain home. No student activities or programs will occur. This includes afterschool programs, practices, performances and contests including interscholastic athletic events. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.

Due to winter related conditions, all schools in Carson City will begin 2-hours later than their usual start time, Monday, Dec. 2, 2019. Principals will adjust the school schedule for the shortened day. Educators and staff should arrive at the school at least 15 minutes before school is to begin on the shortened schedule.

WNC classes delayed until 11 a.m. in Carson City, Douglas County School District: 90 minute bus delays Monday for Valley, Lake Tahoe schools

UPDATE MONDAY: Carson City School District is on a 2-hour delay, according to school officials. Principals will adjust the school schedule for the shortened day. Educators and staff should arrive at the school at least 15 minutes before school is to begin on the shortened schedule. Early Release Day schedule has been canceled. The school day will end at the normal time. Breakfast will not be served.

UPDATE: The Carson City campus of WNC, including the Child Development Center, will have a delayed start Monday. The campus will open at 11 a.m. Classes before this time are cancelled. Jump Start students taking classes at a high school should refer to the high school for closure/delay information. The Fallon campus will open at 8 a.m. No word yet on any delays for Carson City, Lyon and Storey County schools.

From the Douglas County School District website: Due to inclement weather, buses will be on a 90-minute delay on Monday, Dec. 2 for all schools, Valley and Lake.

Senator Square: Comprehensive Life Skills students make fundraising candles

Everyone has a disability of some kind, but most learn how to cope with or overcome it; however, not everyone with a disability is aware enough to recognize whether or not they even have a physical challenge. These individuals have a severe and profound physical and neurological disability, cannot care for themselves, need full-time assistance, and are some of the kindest human beings in the world, many of whom are students in the Carson City School District and at CHS. Each year, students in the CHS Comprehensive Life Skills program make crafts to sell at the annual CHS Craft Fair and give as gifts.

Professional development podcast aims to educate and excite practitioners of all levels in Northern Nevada

The Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) announced the launch of its first podcast, Better PR, this week. The first three episodes are currently available on the chapter’s website at prsasierra.org/Podcast and will also stream on popular podcast platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcast in the future.

Parent Representative Volunteers Needed for Family Life Committee

The Carson City School District is seeking one (1) more application from a parent to serve as a member on the district’s Family Life Committee. An initial request for four (4) applications was made a month ago in October, and the district was able to appoint three (3) new members of the committee; however, the school district is still needing to fill one more seat.

Carson City School Board to discuss potential solution to middle school overcrowding

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.

Carson Tahoe Health, Rotary of Carson City celebrate Labyrinth anniversary and partnership

Wednesday marks 13 years since the opening of the outdoor Labyrinth located at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. The unique space was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City.

In 2006, under the leadership of past president Rafael Cappucci, the Rotary Club contributed $75,000 to build the Labyrinth, and gave another $200,000 in support of the Cancer Center project over a four-year period.

Carson City School District seeks feedback for Eagle Valley Middle School expansion plans
