After using a lighter to ignite a tree that hadn't been watered for several days, the tree completely disintegrated within 90 seconds.

The owner of Slot World in Carson City, Mike Pegram, has made a $10,000 contribution to Holiday with a Hero after serving more than 700 plates of food Saturday to patrons of Betsy's Big Kitchen restaurant inside the casino.

All day Saturday Slot World is donating 100% of the proceeds from the cafe to the Holiday with a Hero program which provides a proper Christmas to nearly 300 local underprivileged students. Carson City Fire Department was called Wednesday night to a structure fire at a Madison Drive residence in north Carson City.

A 35-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony home invasion after allegedly breaking into a home and helping himself to food in the kitchen, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 2:03PM: A mechanical issue is likely to blame for a presence of light smoke inside a Carson Tahoe Hospital care facility on North Minnesota Street, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Dan Shirey. All those evacuated are now allowed back into the facility.

Highway 395 remains closed Tuesday at the Nevada-California state line as firefighters continue to battle the Chris Fire that began Monday west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground.
