The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Always… Patsy Cline is based on the true story of Patsy Cline’s friendship with Louise Seger; her number one fan. Louise narrates the story of how she met Patsy and the friendship that continued throughout Patsy’s short-lived life and career. The show is filled with everyone’s favorite songs sung by Carson Valley’s own; the talented local singer-songwriter Krista Jenkins.

CARSON CITY — In the final year of his 42-year career and his 10th as Nevada's adjutant general, Brig. Gen. William Burks will be this year's keynote speaker at the Nevada National Guard's 21st annual Flag Day ceremony and U.S. Army's 244th birthday celebration 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at the Nevada Veterans Memorial on Capitol grounds, 101 N. Stacey Giomi is a long-time Carson City resident, and the newest member on the Board of Supervisors after being voted into the vacancy left by Karen Abowd. Giomi spent 30 plus years as a firefighter for our community before retiring as Fire Chief. During this series of Five Questions, Giomi discusses his time as fire chief, issues facing Carson City, and what he plans to accomplish during his time on the Board of Supervisors.

The Carson High School class of 2019 said their goodbyes to teachers June 5, most of the teachers finished their grades the same day and checked out June 7, and a few remaining teachers volunteered to help with graduation Saturday.

Pioneer High School held a graduation ceremony Tuesday evening at the Carson City Community Center to commemorate the achievements of 56 students who completed their high school coursework.

Between the 56 students, they secured nearly $125,000 in awards and scholarships to assist with continuing education, which is a new record for the high school.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, June 7, 5 to 7 p.m. The artists will give a brief talk about their work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from June 7 to Sept. 26, 2019.

CARSON CITY — Forty-five Carson High School seniors have earned the nationally recognized National Career Readiness Certificate. The assessment is designed to measure students’ career readiness as they prepare to enter the workforce by assessing their abilities in three core areas: applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as TravelNevada, has promoted Christian Passink to director of Sales and Industry Partners. In this position, Passink will oversee all efforts to promote the Silver State to international visitors as well as supervise TravelNevada’s rural outreach and grant programs.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Feedback from the community will play an integral role in the selection of the Carson City Library’s new director.

“Trustees will be using the interviews and the community input from the meet and greet to select the library director during the May 30 meeting,” said Interim Director Diane Baker. “We appreciate all the input we’ve received from everyone involved.”

CARSON CITY — Thirty-four juniors and seniors from Carson High School were honored at Nevada Governor’s Mansion last Tuesday evening for their efforts in a university level introductory education course. In partnership with the College of Education at the University of Nevada - Reno, CHS offers the EDU 110 course for students interested in pursuing a teaching career.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

It was a celebration unlike any other for family and friends of Western Nevada College’s Adult Literacy and Language program honorees on Thursday night at the Carson Nugget Hall on the Carson City campus.

The AL&L program honored an outstanding group of High School Equivalency recipients, National Adult Education Honor Society inductees and College and Career Transition students to salute the transformation in their lives through a return and embracing of education.

The Carson City Junior Ranger Program educates youth about the environment, fosters a sense of community, and encourages life-long environmental stewardship. Throughout each year's Junior Ranger events, children will fill out their educational Adventure Guides at each program as they learn more about the outdoors.
