Community shred and recycle event Saturday in Carson City to benefit Special Olympics

The Carson City community is invited to participate in a shred and recycle day and barbecue to benefit Special Olympics of Nevada. Document destruction will be done on-site by American Document Destruction and electronics recycling will be collected by Computer Corps.

Car Wash Saturday in Gardnerville to benefit Douglas Marching Band trip to Holiday Bowl

The Douglas Tiger Marching Band will hold a fundraising car wash on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walgreens, 1342 Highway 395 in Gardnerville.
The car wash will be to raise money to help students pay for the cost of their trip to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. Greater Nevada Credit Union will match the first $1,000 raised.

Squeaky’s Car Wash Carson to Give Free Car Wash to Active and Retired Military

Squeaky’s Car Wash, located at 1580 N. Lompa Ln. in Carson City (on the corner of Lompa Lane and HWY 50), will provide a free Ultimate Wash to all active and retired military on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Squeaky’s Car Wash opened in the spring and offers the community a safe, well-lit car wash using the best, brand-new equipment. Squeaky’s aims to not only become a favorite service in the area, but also a true community partner, supporting and thanking northern Nevada’s veterans and active military personnel.

Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

Can you believe it? It’s the last weekend of July and the kids will be headed back to school in no time. Don’t be dismayed though, plenty of summer fun can still be found. Sign the kids up for the Capital City Kids’ Triathlon at the Carson Aquatic Center. Head out to Mills Park for a few laps on the train or a picnic. Don’t miss out on making a bowl for the Empty Bowls project at the Farmers Market; or let the kids run off to the bounce house while you make a bowl yourself.
