El Día de los niños/El Día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures.

The Carson City Library is hosting programs during the month of April to celebrate Día to promote diversity, language, culture, and learning in Carson City!

To participate:
Pick up a Día Passport at any Día program. The kick off event is on Wednesday, 4/5/17.

Come learn about culture and diversity in Carson City through, song, dance, and crafts! We will be making Egg Maracas for the kids to take home in this Diversity in Action program.

Meet near the barns on Silver Saddle Ranch off of Carson River Road. Closed-toed shoes and water are required. Bring water, a friend and/or friendly dogs. Hats, sunscreen and walking sticks recommended.

Muscle Powered Easy Hike program are hikes of between 2 to 4 miles in length, often with some elevation gain (no more than 500') and can be on a paved path, smooth wide trail, or single track. The hikes will usually be of approximately 1 1/2 duration.

Nine years ago, the Kiwanis Club of Carson City, established in 1959, were approached by the Jaycee’s of Carson City. For 30 years they had sponsored and provided the annual Easter Egg Hunt, primarily at Governor’s Field on Easter Sunday.

With the end of the school year drawing nigh, The Carson City School District is pleased to announce it meets or exceeds the minimum number of minutes taught per day and in turn will not be required to make up student days lost due to weather or uncontrollable circumstances. The last day of school for Carson City students will remain Friday, June 2, 2017.

The Carson City Library would like to invite the entire community to participate in a city-wide reading initiative throughout the month of April with the theme of “Building a Better Community.” The 2017 Capital Reads program will focus around three titles:

Learn how your Nevada Legislature works and tour the Assembly and Senate Chambers. Meet in front of the Legislature at 401 S. Carson Street.

All walks and hikes can be found on the Nevada Appeal Events Calendar, the Carson Now Events calendar and at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. The Muscle Powered calendar is a pubic calendar and you can add it to your Google calendar by clicking on the “Google Calendar” and follow the instructions.

Meet in the parking area on New Ridge Drive off of Northridge Drive.Water and closed-toed shoes required.

Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

Meet in the small parking lot of Seely Loop off of Saliman Road. Water and closed-toed shoes required.

Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

Meet in the Hidden Meadows Trailhead parking area at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road.
Closed-toed shoes and water are required.

Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) recognized and presented plaques to the top three winners of the NDOT Stormwater Program Kindergarten through fifth grade "Love NV Waters" drawing contest at the recent March 13 Transportation Board meeting in Carson City.

When there is a divorce and there are minor children involved, the question of who gets to claim the exemption for the children needs to be answered.

On Wednesday, March 8 at 11:45 a.m. at Capitol Automotive, Muscle Powered is presenting Marcus Marchegger (owner of Capitol Automotive, former board member of Muscle Powered, and himself an avid cyclist) with a plaque in recognition of his generous contribution.

Book Perks:
