The Wild Sheep Foundation will host its 43rd annual Convention and Sporting Expo, known as "The Sheep Show,” Jan. 16-19 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and the Peppermill Resort Spa & Casino.

It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

On Saturday, Sept. 14 Nevada Humanities will hold its sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl in Reno celebrating this year’s theme “Unabridged.”

The Literary Crawl is the premier literary event in northern Nevada that will feature an exploratory day of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

RENO, Nev. – “Unabridged,” the sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, will take place Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Reno, featuring an exploratory day of over 40 fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

Silver City, Nevada - Kids ages 8-12 and their parents can don goggles and learn why there's an endothermic reaction between vinegar and baking soda in a bubbling and fun activity on July 2 in Silver City. Participants will use thermometers and observe whether heat is created or extinguished. The experiment will also help them learn about Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Hello Carson City and welcome to the midweek. It is Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Looks like sunshine ahead today as we get a break from showers before another system heads our way tomorrow into Friday. Whether it is a mid-morning or afternoon walk or evening bike ride or quick hike, step outside and enjoy the day.

Hometown author Jonathon Josten has published his first novel, "Poppies and White Elephants" and will be doing book signings around the area including at the Brewery Arts Center Expresso Yourself Café in Carson City on Wednesday, April 3 from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Open a New World,” the fifth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, will take place Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring an exploratory afternoon and evening of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

The leaves are changing, and the sweaters are coming out for the season. Chilly days are perfect for curling up with a good book: meet a local author at the Douglas Library this evening, you never know if you'll find a new favorite. Scott Tazbir has moved into the Backseat Gallery at Comma Coffee. A reception highlighting his drawings will be tonight at 5 p.m. Celebrate National 4-H Week with an open house at the UNR Cooperative Extention Office.

You can probably take ‘beach day’ off of your agenda. Spring has been briefly usurped by a blustery chill. Grab a coat and hit the town anyway. The early spring farmers market downtown, the Cops and Kids event at the Sheriff’s Department, and the Annual Relay for Life at Mills Park are still a good time. This weekend is jam-packed full of fun, so take a look at the weekend event summary for your options indoors and out.

Happy Thursday, Carson City. Spring break begins today and the sunny afternoon will probably be perfect for some kite-flying. School’s out, but the learning continues at the Nevada State Museum. This month’s installment of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series focuses on the history of the U.S.S. Nevada. Music is a great way to slip into the weekend: check out the offerings at Living the Good Life, Glen Eagles, or Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint.

Got kids? The Boys and Girls Club is where you want to be today for the Second Annual Early Childhood Expo. Curious George and Clifford the big red dog can’t wait to say hello. Take a trip out to the Dayton State Park to search for animal tracks and more with a park ranger. If you’re kid free today, then the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk is for you. The young and the young-at-heart will find something fun to do this weekend: just check out the whole list for your options and hit the town.

Who are the people in your neighborhood? Head to the Carson City Downtown Business Association’s monthly wine walk and you’ll be surprised at how many of them you’ll find.

Whether they are helping pour wine, showing off their shop, or a bundled up part of the crowd, it’s one event that brings everyone together. Rain, snow, or shine the wine walk showcases our historic downtown and the great restaurants, shops, services, and watering holes to be found there.

The Downtown Business Association is proud to host a downtown Wine Walk in Carson City every single month. That does mean that you get a mix of rain, shine, and snow throughout the year. Even though highs will be in the low 50s with plenty of sunshine, wear a fall sweater or jacket. You'll have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins.

Local authors, Sandie La Nae and Mary Randall will be book signing and selling their books at Comma Coffee, at the Carson City Wine Walk on Saturday, Dec. 6. Mary Randall writes children's adventure books, and Sandie is an author of Historic-Paranormal writings. (Sandie's books are supported by the Nevada Historical Society).

University of Nevada, Reno distinguished History Professor Emeritus Richard O. “Dick” Davies offers a blow-by-blow account of boxing in the Silver State in his new book titled “The Main Event: Boxing in Nevada from the Mining Camps to the Las Vegas Strip.” The book is now available for purchase.

Davies was inspired to write his book after speaking with Matt Becker, senior acquisitions editor for the University of Nevada Press. He spent a few years researching Nevada’s history and culture of boxing and composed “The Main Event,” his newest chronicle of sports history.

Ever wonder what people wore on their feet 13,000 years ago? A fascinating look at early prehistoric textiles in the Western Great Basin will be the theme of a Jan. 24 lecture presented by archaeologist Pat Barker beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City as part of its monthly Our Frances Humphrey Lecture Series.

Barker will discuss prehistoric textiles, showcasing sandals, mats, bags, basketry, and cordage from the collections of the Nevada State Museum. Learn how foot ware can inform us about how people lived in the past.

RENO, Nev. — Professor Emma Sepulveda has mentored hundreds of students during her academic career at University of Nevada, Reno, but she never thought that she would have the opportunity to mentor a Chilean miner's daughter. Her name was Scarlette Sepulveda (no relation) and her dream was to go back to school one day, get a college degree, and learn to speak English.

Professor Sepulveda promised Scarlette that she would try to help her in any way she could.
