Carson City orphanage memoir author featured at Nevada State Library and Archives lunch

Author Bonnie Boice Nishikawa, whose book "Nevada Orphans, Children's Home: My Life As A Home Kid" is a vivid compilation of day to day life in 1940's and 1950's at the Carson City facility, will be the featured April brown bag luncheon series speaker hosted by the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

Presentation of new Historic Display commemorating the Nevada Children's Home

Member program and presentation in the Carriage House - Bonnie Nishikawa and Girl Scout troop 1951 will be offering a program and new exhibit on the Nevada Children’s Home.

This local Girl Scout troop is working on their Silver Award, the second highest award a Girl Scout can earn, and have created a special display and exhibit for CCHS honoring the memory of the Children’s Home in Carson City. Come see and hear what they have done! We will also hold a short business meeting for members. Refreshments will be served.

Carson City Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years

CCHS Board members and volunteers celebrate 50th anniversary.

Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.

The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.

Sunday, August 6: Events and happenings around Carson City and beyond

Once upon a time the talented kids of Youth Theater Carson City took to the Community Center stage. You have one last chance to catch their fairytale, ‘Into the Woods, Jr.’ before it heads off to Neverland. The Brewery Arts Center plays host to a plethora of Jazz and Beyond today. Don't miss the final day of hot rods and chrome at the Silver Dollar Car Classic in Mills Park. Exercise your artistic talent and play with some mud at Ogres-Holm Pottery where they will be creating bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls event.

Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.
