Carson City orphanage memoir author featured at Nevada State Library and Archives lunch
Author Bonnie Boice Nishikawa, whose book "Nevada Orphans, Children's Home: My Life As A Home Kid" is a vivid compilation of day to day life in 1940's and 1950's at the Carson City facility, will be the featured April brown bag luncheon series speaker hosted by the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.
The book is not only a composite history of the Nevada State Orphans, Children’s Home that was in Carson City, Nevada from 1870 until its closure in 1992, it also describes the daily life of children who were rescued from family tragedies and nurtured through childhood to become healthy and productive future citizens.
Bonnie Nishikawa was a “Home” kid. She pays tribute to the Children’s home that protected Nevada’s disadvantaged kids and to the people who lovingly cared for her during her stay from 1942 to 1955.
The program will be Tuesday April 9, 2019, from noon to 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records is located at 100 North Stewart St., Carson City, Suite 110. Go here for more information about the book.
