Drone study aims to improve Carson City school zone bicycle, pedestrian safety

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, parents, families and teachers may see drones flying above and around their schools during morning student drop-off or afternoon pick-up. The Carson City School District is working with Carson City government officials to conduct a safety review study designed to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety in school zones.

Carson City Special Enforcement Team Deputies bust teenage drug ring, arrest 23-year-old for contributing to minors

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Highway 50 E and I 580 for felony conspiracy to violate UCS, child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and non-functioning brake lights.

According to the arrest report, Special Enforcement Team Deputies arrested Leonel Vasquez after they were conducting surveillance on a known drug location in E. Carson City with other members of the drug task force, SET and TRINET.

Carson City’s newest hotel opens, marks America’s 51st My Place Hotel

After much anticipation, Tuesday marks the opening of America’s 51st My Place Hotel located in Carson City, Nev. The opening of the capital city's newest hotel also marks the second My Place Hotel to open in the Silver State.

Liquidation Store on Highway 50 East in Carson City to hold Sept. 27-29 soft opening

Carson City man arrested on over 20 felonies in regards to string of vehicle burglaries

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested on 20 felony charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, burglary with a firearm, possession of instrument with burglarious intent, and removing a firearm’s serial number.

Marco Antonio Covarrubias was arrested in the 1100 block of Ridgefield Drive early Thursday morning after deputies were responding to the area of Pinion Pine Drive on report of a burglary, and the area had recently reported several other burglaries during the past week with similar circumstances.

Carson City Airport Open House raises money for Eagle Valley Children's Home

At the monthly Carson City Airport Authority meeting of the board, the Authority presented Donna Clarke, executive director of the Eagle Valley Children's Home, a check in the amount of $3,963.61 to establish an endowment in the name of the Carson City Airport Authority to support the mission of the children's home.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Sunday evening to a vehicle crash east of College Parkway near Airport Road.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 92-year-old Carson City woman who died in a vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Highway 50 East and Airport Road.

NV Energy reports outage in northeast Carson City

NV Energy reports an outage Tuesday night in the area of Sneddon Way in northeast Carson City between Airport Road and Sherman Lane. The outage was reported at 7:45 p.m and affects 61 customers in the area. The utility says power should be restored by 10:30 p.m.

NHP: One confirmed dead in crash at Highway 50 East near Airport Road in Carson City

UPDATE 8:26PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol has confirmed one person has died in the Tuesday night crash at Highway 50 near Airport Road. The cause is under investigation. One vehicle involved left the scene of the crash. NHP had earlier advised it was looking for a suspect vehicle with heavy front end damage. At 8:41 p.m., NHP advised it was no longer looking for the vehicle. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 8:05PM: Care Flight air ambulances have taken patients from the separate crashes that happened Tuesday night on Highway 50 East and Highway 50 West to the hospital, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Hannah DeGoey.

The aircraft known as "Sentimental Journey," tail number N9323Z, was at the Minden-Tahoe Airport from Sept. 3 through Sept. 8. During this time the public was able to crawl though the aircraft, to see what it was like to be in a real WWII bomber, and was also able to purchase tickets for rides in various locations within the plane. The Commemorative Air Force B-17 Sentimental Journey will be in Douglas County at the Minden-Tahoe Airport arriving Tuesday, Sept. 3. The aircraft will be available for tours and flights, daily through Sept. 8.

The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most recognized WII bombers flying over Europe with the 8th Air Force out of England. It was made famous in movies like "Twelve O'Clock High" and "Command Decision."

Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss purchasing $90,000 worth of wireless microphones

Carson City emergency crews called to crash involving juvenile pedestrian at 5th and Saliman

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday night to a vehicle crash involving a juvenile that happened in the area of Fifth and Saliman streets.

Standoff with Carson City sheriff's deputies ends safely, man with warrant arrested

A standoff involving a man facing extradition for a parole absconder warrant out of Texas ended safely late Saturday night with the suspect taken into custody.

The incident happened at an apartment in the area of Airport Road and Menlo streets and ended with the man surrendering without force, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The date is the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday.
