Carson City sheriff's log: Drug related arrests make up bulk of Friday bookings
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 06/06/2015 - 5:46pmA 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue on felony drug possession charges, a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
A deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was called to the area of Rand Avenue for a report of drug activity. Taken into custody was Erik Robert Compton.

I learned a lot about how to use my body more efficiently to reduce the pain I feel after doing my landscape chores. Think of all the things we gardeners do with our bodies: bend, dig, haul, kneel, mix, plant, prune, pull, rake, lift, twist and rake, just to name a few. And, we think gardening is a leisure activity!

Magnitude 5.4 earthquake near Caliente reported by Nevada Seismological Laboratory
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/22/2015 - 1:00pmThe Nevada Seismological Laboratory reports a magnitude 5.4 earthquake located 24 miles southwest of Caliente, Nev., 100 miles north of Las Vegas and 46 miles northwest of Mesquite, Nev. at 11:47 a.m. on May 22, 2015. There have been reports of minor damage. An aftershock of magnitude 3.8 occurred at 12:05 p.m. and a magnitude 3.0 at 12:19 p.m.

Nevada initial unemployment claims decrease in April; overall claim stability continues
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/19/2015 - 11:44amApril unemployment claims filed in Nevada were down 9.3 percent from April 2014 figures, with the general trend in claims, captured by the 12-month moving average, remaining relatively flat, falling by 0.8 percent to 14,510 in April, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

I’m not even going to pretend I know what the weather is doing, so you may just need to Google some sunny images. Tuesdays are known for two guided walks, but I recommend checking the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page here, or Muscle Powered’s Facebook page here before you go. Not affected by the weather, the Carson High School Musical Theater Performance and Band Concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater this evening. Go support our talented kids one last time before the school year ends.

He is a professor at University pf Nevada, Las Vegas where he teaches photography and multimedia courses. The public is invited to an exhibit reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Reno man who used private plane to transport marijuana gets 2 years in prison
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/01/2015 - 3:20pmKevin Dennis Golden, 39, of Reno, Nevada, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison for possession with the intent to distribute approximately 88 pounds of marijuana that he was attempting to fly in a private plane to Pennsylvania, according to the U.S Department of Justice.

Carson City man sentenced to 10 years prison for child pornography
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/13/2015 - 1:19pmA man who was found in possession of 6,000 images and 20 videos of child pornography, including child rape, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, lifetime supervised release, and ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution to various victims, announced U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden, for the District of Nevada.
Nevada wildlife wardens release Jack's Valley black bear captured Wednesday
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/09/2015 - 3:07pmA black bear captured Wednesday morning in Jack’s Valley south of Carson City has been safely released back in to the wild near the area where it was trapped. The bear was seen as a potential trouble bear because of its interest in the livestock in the area.
In a whirlwind 24-hour period, the 350-pound male bear was trapped, tranquilized, fitted with ear tags, a satellite collar, a micro-chip and a tattoo. After sleeping off the tranquilizer induced hangover, it was safely released back in to the wild Thursday morning.

CHS and Greenhouse Project vie to win $20,000 from certified organic food company
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/06/2015 - 5:27pmThe Greenhouse Project, located at Carson High School in Carson City, has entered the Seeds of Change Grant Program for an opportunity to win one of two $20,000, five $10,000 grants or ten $1,000 grants. They are asking the community to vote for their application.
The Grant Program aims to enhance the environmental, economic and social well-being of gardens, farms and communities. The grants will be awarded to organizations that help support sustainable, community-based gardening and farming programs that focus on teaching people about the food they eat and how it’s grown.
