FERNLEY — Healthy Communities Coalition's Stand Tall and the Family Resource Center are hosting the 5th Annual Turkey Trot 5K at the Fernley High on Saturday, November 18th beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Pre-registration for the 2017 Carson City Turkey Trot ends Thursday night. More than 300 runners have signed up so far and the weather is forecasted for sunny skies on Thanksgiving Day.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. While you’re waiting for the three-day weekend, go enjoy Monday. Football, swing dancing, and karaoke are all on the menu.

Carson High School junior Ethan Byassee placed first in Race for the Cure held Sunday at City Plaza in downtown Reno. The 17-year-old finished with a time of 17:23. Ethan is a member of the CHS Varsity Cross Country team and Track and Field teams.

Carson City Kiwanis hosts Saturday of golf, running and lifting for pancreatic cancer awareness

Avery Hudak, 22, tied for first place in last year’s Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day 5K.
While it was a personal accomplishment for the runner, it was also a victory for her mother, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2014.

On September 13, Carson High School will open its doors a little wider and longer for a back to school night like no other. Open House, Open Hearts is a community event focused on building bridges to local services for teens and their families, increasing parent and guardian engagement at CHS, and celebrating the community, creativity and diverse talents of Carson City.

Carson City walkers take to street Saturday for suicide prevention

Participants in the 5K Walk for Suicide Prevention walk through downtown Carson City Saturday morning to help raise awareness about suicide. Partnership Carson City, the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention and the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention co-host the event to educate the community about resources available for people suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts, as well as give support for their families.

Six years ago, shots rang out and Carson City was thrust into the middle of a tragedy. Four people died in the IHOP shooting, three of them National Guard members. Today, they will be honored again during the annual Remembrance Run. If you are driving along Fairview, please give them some extra room. Wheeled Truck Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center is a ‘weather permitting’ event, so keep your eye out for rain clouds.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Guard is set to host a memorial run/walk on Wednesday, Sept. 6, to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting that occurred in 2011.

JDRF of Northern Nevada One Walk
