CARSON CITY – A conservative Nevada think tank gave passing scores to 22 Republicans in the just-concluded 2011 legislative session, handing out failing scores to four other GOP lawmakers and all 37 Democrats in a report card released today.

Carson City Little League will again host the 9/10, 10/11 and 11/12 age group All Star tournament for District 1 Little League. We will begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday June 29 at 3:30 p.m. at Governors field. Games will continue to July 13th. Come volunteer or just watch an action packed baseball game with some of the most talented youth in the area battle it out for the District title.

Oregon fishery managers added three days to the all-depth sport halibut fishery off the central Oregon coast.
Fishing for Pacific halibut will be open Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25, at all depths.

The spring all-depth season for the central coast area – from Cape Falcon (30 miles south of the Columbia River) to Humbug Mountain (south of Port Orford) – opened May 12 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only.

Some of the highest excise tax revenues among the states are collected in Nevada, a new report from the Mercatus Center shows.

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) announces changes to recreational groundfish regulations that apply to state waters 0-3 nautical miles from shore. The new regulations were adopted by the Fish and Game Commission last month and took effect June 9, 2011.

CARSON CITY – A review of cash settlements paid by state agencies to employees and contractors shows no pattern of failure to bring large payments to the Board of Examiners for review and approval, Gov. Brian Sandoval said today.
The board, which also includes Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller, reviewed 12 pages of cash payments, most of which were unrelated to settlements with employees.

SAN FRANCISCO- AT&T Park 'magic' took a day off as the San Francisco Giants' (36-29) ace Tim Lincecum (5-5) was chewed up and spit out by the Cincinnati Reds (34-32) who beat the Giants 10-2 on Saturday afternoon in front of 41,725 fans at AT&T Park (30th consecutive sell-out). CARSON CITY – A bill aimed at increasing transparency and accountability for state employees working as contractors saw final legislative approval today when the Assembly and Senate reached agreement on compromise language to the measure.
Assembly Bill 240, sponsored by Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Debbie Smith, D-Sparks, will now go to Gov. Brian Sandoval for his consideration.

CARSON CITY – Insurance Commissioner Brett Barratt said today that rates for the high risk pool in the federal Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) for Nevada have been reduced by 37.5 percent by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services starting July 1.
“This is great news for the thousands of uninsured Nevadans eligible for the PCIP,” Barratt said. “These rate decreases make PCIP more affordable and comparable to the commercial market for individuals.”

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval and legislative leaders from both parties announced a budget agreement today that will see tax increases and restorations of funding to public and higher education in exchange for significant policy reforms in education and collective bargaining.
The agreement came on the 115th day of the session, and virtually guarantees that lawmakers will adjourn the 2011 session by Monday as the constitution requires.
