The commission’s board meeting follows the Forum in Building #3 at 1:30 p.m.

More trails, terrain open at Northstar, halfpipe slated for Friday
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/06/2015 - 3:43pmLake Tahoe's Northstar California will open this winter’s first halfpipe to skiers and riders this coming Friday, Jan. 9, resort officials announced Tuesday.
Located on Pipeline trail and accessible via Vista Express, the halfpipe is a popular and highly-anticipated feature among Northstar’s terrain park users. Its addition allows for a contiguous, uninterrupted terrain park descent from the top of Pinball Park, which currently offers guests access to 46 features, into the Pipeline Park, which hosts the halfpipe.
Carson City weekend arrests mostly misdemeanor offenses, six jailed on felony charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 01/05/2015 - 3:51pmA 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 1:26 a.m. in the 2900 block of Menlo Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, arriving officers could hear a man inside the apartment banging and yelling on a door inside.

Also kicking off today is a week long recycling program for your Christmas tree; just place it outside with your garbage on your regular trash pick up day.

The Elks Lodge is holding a hoop shoot contest for ages 8-13 (as of April 1, 2015), with the winners headed to the District Hoop Shoot in Reno. This is also the last weekend to enjoy a sleigh ride at Sand Harbor; bundle up and enjoy a gorgeous view.
Eleven arrests made during Stateline New Year's celebration at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/01/2015 - 10:34amThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that the New Year’s Eve celebration in the casino core area of Stateline at Lake Tahoe went as planned without many problems or arrests.
Eight people were arrested in the downtown casino core area of Stateline, Nevada during the evening. Charges included battery, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol and possession of a dangerous drug. Another three people were arrested for traffic related offenses and driving under the influence.
Handful of DUI, assault arrests over mostly quiet New Year’s in Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/01/2015 - 10:24amA 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 12:58 a.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of DUI, driving in the middle lane for 200 feet and violation of bail conditions, all misdemeanors, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, officers stopped the Dayton man after observing him enter the middle driving lane past Airport Road where he traveled approximately 500 feet in the center before stopping at the red light at Highway 50 and Lompa Lane.

Prescribed fire operations continue at Lake Tahoe into 2015

Carson City deputies make multiple DUI and drug related arrests over the weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 12/28/2014 - 3:22pmA 26-year-old Stateline man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and other charges after a traffic stop in the 4000 block of South Curry Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, during a consensual stop at a parked car in a movie theater parking lot at 1:57 a.m., an officer asked the man, Daniel Louis Allen, for identification.

Snow on the ground, though it was meager, and for the temperatures to cool down. This way we can all go ice fishing soon.
As for right now the higher lakes are just getting iced over. Caples Lake only has about 4 days of ice on it and Red Lake has an inch or so over it.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on felony domestic battery charge
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 12/23/2014 - 9:42amA 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation and two misdemeanor warrant charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Monty Ludwig was arrested after being found by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper. Bail was set at $16,241.
Data shows Nevadans gave the most to charity during the recession
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/22/2014 - 10:22amWhen recession struck the Silver State, it was Nevadans who pulled together and were the most charitable, according to IRS statistics compiled by a national nonprofit consulting agency.
From around December of 2007 to June of 2009, the recession kicked off by the subprime mortgage crisis, affected the entire nation and especially Nevada, among the hardest hit. The states that experienced some of the biggest decreases in median income actually increased their charitable giving the most, according to PlentyConsulting.com.
