Carson City weekend arrests mostly misdemeanor offenses, six jailed on felony charges

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 1:26 a.m. in the 2900 block of Menlo Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, arriving officers could hear a man inside the apartment banging and yelling on a door inside.

Officers knocked met with the couple. The woman said she and her husband got into an argument when she suggested he get mental health treatment. She said she became frightened after her husband pushed her in the bathroom while attempting to get away from him. She told officers this was the first time that he had become violent toward her and she was scared he would hurt her. Bail: $3,137.

Sunday:
A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 8:29 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Saliman on three misdemeanor charges: violation of a restraining order and two alternative sentencing violations. Bail: $7,137.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 3:37 a.m. following a road rage incident that happened in the area of Fairview Drive and Fifth Street. The man was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI, careless driving, driving with an expired registration and having no proof of insurance. Bail: $2,228.

Saturday:
— A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:47 p.m. in the 1300 block of Como Street on suspicion of burglary and obstructing and resisting officers. Joe Swanson, was booked on the charges with a bail amount of $20,412.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex after a reporting witness said a large man climbed into the west window of an apartment. Upon arrival, officers found Swanson trying to climb out of the window.

Officers ordered the man to stop. He climbed back into the apartment and climbed out of the north side window. Deputies ordered the man to again stop. He then ran west through the parking lot, refusing all commands from deputies. He continued to run but was stopped in the 1300 block of Como. He was cuffed and searched. Officers located several empty prescription medication bottles, prescribed to a woman. There were several bottles in different pockets of his jacket and pants, the arrest report states.

A woman came out of a nearby apartment and said that Swanson was her husband. She said they had returned home and Swanson was going out for a cigarette. She said he was gone longer than normal but didn’t think much about it until she heard deputies arresting the man.
The landlord was contacted and responded to the apartment. He said the apartment was being rented to another person who was in the process of moving but was still renting until Jan. 10, 2015. Officers spoke with the man, who informed them that he was still occupying the apartment and that the medications found on Swanson belonged to his wife.

— A 38-year-old Carson City woman, Eybar Martinez-Uribe, was arrested Saturday, 9:39 p.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on suspicion of felony parole and probation violation. She is being held without bail pending a hearing.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:40 p.m. on charges of driving without a valid license and being arrested while on probation. The driver was stopped for speeding and told officers he did not have a valid license. A check through dispatch showed the man to be on Alternative Sentencing with conditions to obey all laws. Bail: $3,192.

— A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 10:07 a.m. in the area of Fall and Dan streets on a misdemeanor warrant charge of contempt of court, issued May 5, 2014 out of Sparks Municipal Court. The woman was found after attempting to shoplift at a grocery store. Bail: $647.

— A 20-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Saturday, 12:05 p.m. on misdemeanor warrant charges issued June 5, 2013, May 19, 2013 and May 9, 2013, out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,246.

— A 38-year-old Carson City man turned himself into Carson City Jail deputies on Saturday, 4:57 p.m. on a misdemeanor charge, failure to appear on a warrant, issued Dec. 31, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $155.

— A 22-year-old Kings Beach, Calif., woman was arrested Saturday, 1:09 a.m. in the 2000 block of East William Street on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Officers noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a business. The officer could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and made contact with the driver who told the officer, when asked, that there was marijuana in the car. Officers found a glass jar and a marijuana pipe. Bail: $1,894.

Friday
— A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 7:55 p.m. in the 2700 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge of battery. According to the arrest report, a victim said a man struck him with a duffle bag after the passenger’s side door of his vehicle bumped into the suspect’s truck. The victim told officers the man didn’t say anything but charged at him, and hit him with the duffle bag. A witness at the scene identified the suspect and confirmed he saw the man swing the bag, knocking the victim to the ground. Bail: $1,000.

— Melissa Luona Carter and Joseph Allen Vineis, both 33 of Carson City, were arrested Friday, 5:24 p.m. in the 600 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine and heroin, and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were called to the location regarding a suspicious vehicle parked. Officers arrived and found a man sleeping in the car and a female sitting in the front passenger seat, the arrest report states.

Officers instructed Vineis to place his hands on the steering wheel of the vehicle but he did not follow instructions, the report states. The vehicle had a strange odor that officers could not identify and a K9 exterior search was done that came back positive. The two were detained and a search led to syringes, a baggie of .1 gram of methamphetamine and a plastic baggie with .20 grams of heroin. In a purse officers found multiple syringes, a metal spoon and .1 gram of heroin residue on a piece of paper. Bail: $3,637 each.

— Two were arrested and face multiple felony charges related to a vehicle burglary that happened Friday where stolen credit cards were used at a casino and to purchase around $900 worth merchandise, clothing and pizza. Go here to read the full story.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson High School Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education students competed at the three-day state conference last month for Nevada Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Carson City’s former Board of Supervisor and business owner Stan Jones was posthumously awarded Thursday the Historic Preservation Award for his long time work for downtown Carson City.

Each year, a Historic Preservation Award is awarded by the Historic Resources Commission to Carson City residents or organizations who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to historic preservation.

The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is today, Thursday, May 2 at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. The memorial brings hundreds to the capitol grounds. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrested three for their alleged involvement in business thefts last month on Topsy Lane south of Carson City.

The national issue of suicide — particularly among veterans — touched many people who attended the Walk for Hope on Wednesday morning at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

The new renovations at the Carson City Senior Center opened the opportunity to host art shows to extend enrichment to the senior community. Carson City Senior Center presents “Geographical Divides: Finding Common Ground,” featuring 16 artists who were asked to explore the geographical and cultural differences in Nevada, if such differences truly exist.

Carson City’s Muscle Powered hosts bike month each year in addition to their year-round volunteerism.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.
