Woman jailed on felony possession of marijuana after Christmas Day traffic stop
A Truckee, Calif., woman was arrested Dec. 25, 2:38 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on felony suspicion of possession of marijuana after officers found approximately 4.5 ounces in her vehicle following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Diamond Barker, 26, was arrested with a bail amount of $2,500. According to the arrest report, an officer assigned to the Special Enforcement Team observed a blue Subaru traveling north on Carson Street at a high rate of speed, estimated to be 50 in a 25 mph zone.
The officer pulled behind the vehicle and paced it going 45 mph in the 25 mph zone. The vehicle stayed about 45 mph and then started pulling away, according to the arrest report. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren at Park and Carson streets. The vehicle continued northbound and didn’t stop until around the 1700 block of North Carson Street, the arrest report states.
The officer spoke with the driver and could smell the faint odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer walked away from the vehicle and then returned and noticed the smell was strong. The officer asked the woman about the marijuana. She said she had a small amount in a jar in the center console. The officer asked her to step outside of the car and explained that a K9 would do an exterior sniff of the vehicle.
The K9, Rex, made a positive alert. The officer opened the driver door and looked in the center console and found a glass jar with marijuana and a plastic bag with marijuana that weighed 128 grams. In all about 4.5 ounces was located. She was taken into custody for possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, a felony.
In other arrests: A 25-year-old man and 30-year-old woman wanted on felony warrants were arrested Dec. 25, 8:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Shelbyville Drive, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Kelly Manning was arrested on a bench warrant issued Dec. 15, 2014 out of First Judicial District Court. He’s being held without bail on the warrant and parole and probation violation charges. Lindsie Newman was also taken into custody and faces the same charges. She is also being held without bail pending a hearing.
According to the arrest report, officers went to the residence on a keep the peace request. The property owner of the Shelbyville Drive residence wanted the tenant removed and showed paperwork for a Dec. 23 eviction.
The tenant told officers he disagreed with the eviction. The officer told the man he would have to take the matter up in civil court. He was asked if anyone had been staying in the apartment. Manning and Newman were both found inside, with Manning hiding under a pile of clothes, according to the arrest report.
The 31-year-old man tenant faces a gross misdemeanor charge of harboring fugitives. His bail was set at $2,500.
— A 39-year-old Reno man and an inmate at Carson City Jail, Nathan Richard Kuzma, faces a felony battery charge after a Dec. 23 fight with another inmate, according to a sheriff’s deputy. Officers interviewed both men. The victim said Kuzma attacked him while he was trying to eat. The man had a red mark on his left eye and a scratch on the right side of his neck. During an interview with Kuzma, he admitted he punched the inmate with his left hand two began fighting.
Kuzma’s knuckles were red and he did not have any visible injuries on his body. He told the officer the victim did not hit him, the arrest report states. Video captured the altercation. Kuzma was charged with battery by a prisoner. Bail: $20,000.
— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 25, 9:13 p.m. in the 1200 block of Roop Street on suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic. According to the arrest report, an officer spotted the driver running over a center median in the area of Park and Stewart streets. The median is there to prevent people from turning left at the intersection.
The officer made a traffic stop and smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle. The officer asked the driver and passenger if they had been drinking. They said they had. The officer asked if he would participate in Standardized Field Sobriety tests and he agreed. With the preliminary breath test the driver gave a sample of .162. He was arrested. At jail he provided two breath samples of .155 and .164, according to the arrest report. Bail: $1,214.
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 24, 10:12 p.m. in the 3400 block of Airport Road on two misdemeanor charges of violation of pre-trial conditions. According to the arrest report, dispatch was called to the area regarding a domestic dispute.
Dispatch alerted officers the man involved was on pre-trial supervision and was not to have contact with the victim.
The man stated he was picking up kids. The victim stated the man was cussing and intimidating her and she told him to leave. The victim told the officer the man refused to leave. The victim stated the man entered her residence through a sliding glass door because he does not have the key. Dispatch contacted an Alternative Sentencing officer who stated there are two cases involving the man out of Carson City Justice Court. He was taken into custody. Bail: $6,000.
— A 68-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Dec. 24, 8:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of Wendy Lane on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the arrest report the suspect allegedly slapped her son-in-law in the face and neck area. The incident was witnessed by a neighbor. The victim had visible redness on his face and left side behind the ear, the arrest report states. The woman was arrested. Bail: $3,137.
— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Dec. 24, 4:28 p.m. at a grocery store on East William Street on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Dec. 11, 2009 out of Reno Township Court.
According to the arrest report, the woman was caught shoplifting at the grocery store. Store personnel said they were going to let the woman go but she had a baby with her and she was intoxicated and they were afraid she would be driving.
Officers made contact with the woman. Dispatch confirmed the warrant. She provided a preliminary breath test of a .210. There were no family members available to pick up the baby for care, and the child was released to Family Services. Bail: $1,005.
— A Carson City man was arrested Dec. 24, 11:01 a.m. in the 1900 block of Airport Road on a misdemeanor charge of being an ex-felon failing to register. Bail: $242.
— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 24, 8:50 a.m. ion the 500 block of East William Street on misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and violation of a court monitored supervision. The man allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol from a grocery store and left without paying. Dispatch advised the man was on Alternative Sentencing. Bail: $852.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
