Carson City crime log: Man faces multiple felony domestic battery charges
A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation, two felony counts of preventing a witness from calling 911 and misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Gerardo Vega was booked into custody at 9:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way.
According to the arrest report, Vega got into an argument that turned into a physical altercation with a woman whom he has a child with. The victim’s account states that Vega shoved her and then followed her to her daughter's upstairs bedroom and pushed her across the room.
The victim told officers she was going to call 911 and that Vega approached and began choking her using his left hand. According to the arrest report, the victim was unable to get to her phone in her pocket so she instructed her daughter to call 911.
The victim stated Vega then began to choke her with both hands causing her to feel as though she was going to lose consciousness. The daughter attempted to call 911, but Vega slapped the phone out of her hands.
The arresting officer observed the visible injuries to both victims and apprehended Vega nearby. Bail: $43,132.
In other arrests:
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 11:56 a.m., in the 3800 block of Hwy 50 E. on a criminal contempt warrant out of Sparks. Bail: $455.
— A 52-year-old Carson City Jail inmate was arrested Monday, 9:35 a.m., for gross misdemeanor damage to jail property. According to the arrest report, the inmate used a jail-issued pen to draw numbers, roman numerals and assorted shapes on the wall near the sink and mirror in the cell. Bail: $2,500.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 7:4 p.m., on the corner of Highway 50 E. And Fairview for misdemeanor resident with non-Nevada license, no proof of insurance, no license in possession, non-functioning license plate light, and no registration certificate in vehicle. Bail: $990.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 9:56 p.m., in the 3000 block of N. Carson Street for a misdemeanor Douglas County warrant for failure to appear. Bail: $238.
— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested on Sunday, 12:20 a.m., in the 2200 block of E. William St. Tyler Michael Charles was arrested for two felony counts suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
A female driver, observed talking on a cell phone while driving, was followed by a CCSO patrol car to the parking lot of a casino in the 2200 block of William Street. Before the officer made the stop, Charles exited the casino and entered the passenger side of the vehicle the officer was observing. The driver gave the deputy permission to search the vehicle.
During the search the deputy located a neatly folded square of aluminum foil under the front passenger seat where Charles was sitting. Inside was dark brown residue of alleged heroin. Also, a small piece of sticky brown substance which appeared to be heroin.
According to the arrest report, The female driver insisted the heroin did not belong to her and that Tyler had been reaching under the front seat as the officer pulled up.
Charles submitted to a search and the deputy located a tourniquet in his pocket and a syringe containing a dark brown substance consistent to heroin hidden inside of Charles’ sock. No other drugs or paraphernalia were found when the driver was searched and she was released.
During intake at the jail a deputy located a small amount of hard, white, crystal like substance in Charles’ wallet which appeared to be methamphetamine. Bail: $6,137.
