Carson City arrests: Man calls 911 to report bank robbery, says he wanted to film response

A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for allegedly calling 911 and telling dispatch two people were robbing a bank and then later admitting he did it to film a reaction by law enforcement, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
The man was questioned and later booked for suspected misuse of calling 911, a gross misdemeanor offense, misdemeanor false reporting of a crime and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation of pretrial supervision.
According to the booking report, at 12:52 p.m. the suspect called 911 dispatch and stated there was a robbery in progress with a man and woman carrying things out of a North Stewart Street bank and were last seen heading north on Stewart.
The man asked dispatch if he could get a reward and then, minutes later, he stated he was "bullshitting" and "nothing happened." Then he stated he "just wanted a cop to come out there," according to the report.
Dispatch advised of the location and description of the caller, and were able to locate him in the area of Roop and John streets. The man admitted to officers he made the fake call and that he had a plan to have deputies respond to the location so he could film their response on scene.
The man admitted it was a dumb idea and apologized for calling. Bail: $3,000 cash for the DAS violation and $3,000 for making a false report and misusing 911.
In other arrests:
— A 22-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of DUI and open container. According to the booking report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to maintain a lane on East Musser Street near North Roop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, the sole occupant, and observed she had red, glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath. The woman was asked how much had she had to drink. The woman stated she had a drink but did not say how much and later said she had two vodka cranberries. She agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test and was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Inside the vehicle there was a half bottle of vodka in the car and an unknown mixed beverage. The woman consented to an evidentiary breath test with results of .096 and .131. Bail: $1,137.
— A 37-year-old Mound House man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI, speeding and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation.
According to the booking report deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. The officer made contact with the driver, who had slurred speech and red watery eyes.
The man initially said he had not been drinking and then admitted to having a few drinks, the arrest report states. He agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He refused a preliminary breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He consented to a blood test. Bail: $3,000 cash.
— A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of DUI, operating a vehicle with a revoked license, expired registration, speeding and two Department of Alternative Sentencing violations.
According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle speeding at a significantly greater speed than the posted 40 mph speed limit.
The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle at the intersection of College Parkway and US-50 East. A registration check through dispatch came back suspended. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.
The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person, the report states. She denied consuming alcoholic beverages. The deputy learned she had a revoked license for DUI and was on Department of Alternative Sentencing.
The woman was asked to step out of the vehicle, where the officer observed a bottle of vodka with no cap. She was asked if she would participate in field sobriety tests. The woman refused to participate. She was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI. While conducting a vehicle inventory, a tall can of beer was discovered in the center console cup holder. The can was cold to the touch with liquid inside, according to the report.
The woman denied voluntarily consent for a breath test or blood sample. A warrant was granted for a blood draw. Bail: $4,000 cash for the alleged department of alternative sentencing violations and $1,998 for the other offenses.
