Carson City Arrests: Man crossing street against the light found with drugs

A Carson City man was found with what is suspected to be methamphetamine after deputies arrested him on a felony warrant.

John Michael Taylor, a 43 year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday at 4:48 p.m. at John and Carson St. on warrant for felony attempted possession of a stolen vehicle, and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in court . After being searched by the arresting officer, a glass pipe and a white substance was found in Taylor’s coat pocket. The substance tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine and a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia was added. According to the police report, Taylor, and another individual were stopped by the arresting officer for using the crosswalk on Stewart St. against the light. Total bail: $3,822

In other arrests:

— Beverly Dianne Tucker, a 50-year old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday at 8:45 p.m. at New Ridge and Northgate Dr. for Felony possession of a controlled substance as well as three other misdemeanor charges. According to the police report, Tucker was pulled over in a routine traffic stop for speeding and failure to completely stop before making a right turn on a red light. Beverly was nervous and rambling in her conversations. She continued to tell multiple stories and could not stay on task in retrieving documents the officers requested. The arresting officer contacted three additional officers to assist in the stop. She consented to a search of her person and vehicle where officers came upon a suspected methamphetamine pipe in her jacket pocket. Tucker was also arrested for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to completely stop on right turn at stop light, and basic speeding (1-10mph). Total bail: $3,841.

— A 36 year-old Dayton man was arrested Thursday at 9:45 p.m. for misdemeanor contempt of court. The man was delivered to the Carson City Jail by a Lyon County deputy for the warrant. Bail: $1,000

— Adam James Guenther, 27, was arrested Thursday near midnight at the intersection of S. Carson St. and Stewart St. at 11:45 p.m. for multiple misdemeanor offenses as well as felony possession of a controlled substance. The misdemeanor offenses are expired registration, suspended driver’s license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Guenther gave consent to search the vehicle where the arresting offer found new and used hypodermic needles, burnt residue on a spoon, and used q-tips. The officer also found suspected suboxone pills and a suboxone strip. Total bail: $4,346.

NV Energy reports 2,636 customers without power Monday morning in Carson City. The outage was reported at 9:46 a.m. At this time there is not an estimated time of restoration. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5PM: Fire crews will be mopping up the Callahan Fire overnight and into tomorrow. One primary residential structure was lost along with multiple outbuildings. The cause is under investigation at this time. Some fire evacuations remain in place at Callahan Rd and Fawn Lane as crews mop up hot spots. See Perimetermap.com here for evacuation updates.

UPDATE 12:55PM: The fire is estimated at approximately 100 acres; approximately 3,000 people have been impacted by evacuations. Rain is falling on the fire scene. Additional Strike Teams totaling 10-15 engines have begun arriving to assist on the fire, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the Washoe County Alert system sent out an evacuation notice to residents in the Callahan Ranch area stating they should evacuate immediately.

The evacuation point is at South Valleys Library located at 15650A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.

Dayton Elementary students were treated Friday to a helicopter fly-in by the Nevada National Guard as part of the school's Veterans Day program.

A team from Nevada National Guard landed a helicopter on the soccer field after the school's Veterans Day assembly. Dayton Elementary is the only school in Lyon County that is a Purple Star School.

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and is a federal holiday to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. A number of events are planned in Carson City and surrounding counties.

Charle Abowd, a world renowned, award-winning chef and restaurateur but even more than that a philanthropist and community fixture for decades, died Saturday evening, according to longtime friends.

Abowd, 73, was a pioneer in farm to table dining, along with his wife Karen who co-owned Cafe at Adele's, he was a champion and supporter of music and the arts. He was a man who dedicated himself to lifting up others.

After a relatively mild weekend, another storm system is expected to arrive Monday that will bring gusty winds, mountain snow and some valley rain, according to the National Weather Service.
