Carson City Elks Lodge delivers $4K to Holiday with a Hero shopping program for local kids
Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 delivered in a heroic way Tuesday night by presenting organizers of the Holiday with a Hero project with a contribution of $4,000 for the Christmas shopping program for local students in need.
Holiday with a Hero organizers, from left, Carson City Fire Battalion Chief Jason Danen, Carson City School District McKinney-Vento Liaison Peggy Sweetland, Carson City District Court Bailiff Meliah Gonzales and Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales discuss the program with the Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 on Tuesday night.
The Elks hosted a fall tea that resulted in $2,500 in proceeds and donations as well as added a $1,500 national grant, contributing a total of $4,000 to the holiday shopping program.
Holiday with a Hero, in its 15th year, pairs 300 local homeless students with first responders and community volunteers for a $100 shopping spree at Walmart.
The Elks donation of $4,000 is the second-largest single donation in the history of the Holiday with a Hero program.
The primary fundraiser for the program is the annual Holiday Crawl on Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $20 in advance and available online here or in person at the Culture & Tourism Authority (716 N. Carson St.) or the Carson City Fire Department main office (777 S. Stewart St.) To learn more, go to holidaywithahero.com.
