Icy road conditions cause numerous accidents in Carson City
Motorists should take extra precaution tonight as rain and snow showers earlier today in Carson City have turned to ice with numerous accidents around town. As of 10 p.m. no major injuries were reported as a result of the accidents, according to dispatchers.
According to Carsonweather.com and the National Weather Service an advisory has been issued that warns of poor driving conditions and slick roads because of the freezing rain and snow.
A multiple-car pileup was reported at about 6:35 tonight at the Fifth Street Bridge in Carson City. An officer at the scene reported the bridge was "solid ice" and asked for city road crews to sand the pavement.
No injuries were reported in that accident. As of 6:55, traffic was being stopped at Fifth and Saliman and diverted.
Meanwhile a Carson City Sheriff's Office patrol car has apparently spun out near the entrance of Centennial Park. An officer may have suffered a laceration to the nose. In another accident on Centennial Drive, a single vehicle rolled over on its side. No injuries were reported.
Earlier tonight an accident tied up Highway 395 at Eastlake Boulevard, in the northbound lane when a vehicle reportedly slid into a wall. No injuries were reported.
