Vegas homicide suspect jailed after brief standoff with Carson City deputies

A man wanted by Las Vegas police for suspicion of homicide was arrested Tuesday night following a brief standoff with Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies, according to an arrest report.

Shyhelee Jamal Coleman, 35, was taken into custody at 9:24 p.m. at the Maverick gas station in the 1400 block of College Parkway.

During the standoff, the gas station was evacuated and the intersection was closed. No one was injured.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched for a report of a suspicious vehicle at the gas station. When deputies arrived on scene they observed the suspect's vehicle parked on the south end of the parking lot, and the vehicle occupied by an adult male, the suspect Coleman, according to the booking report. An employee of the gas station asked CCSO to have the man trespassed from the property.

A deputy asked the man to roll his window down so they could talk. Coleman did not respond and did not roll down the window as instructed. Th officer asked the man to open his door but he wouldn't cooperate.

Another deputy noticed a VIN displayed on the exterior of the vehicle. It was run through dispatch, which activated the emergency tone alerting that the vehicle was involved in a homicide from Las Vegas. Dispatch also advised the vehicle was associated to a Shyhelee Coleman, who was an active homicide and arson suspect, according to the booking report.

Deputies initiated a high risk traffic stop by surrounding the vehicle, where Coleman ultimately opened his door and threw out a large kitchen knife. He surrendered approximately 30 minutes following negotiations, according to the booking report. The warrant out of Vegas was confirmed and the man was taken into custody being held without bail awaiting extradition.
