Cortez Masto helps secure $9.3 million for Carson City’s East William Street Project

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced Wednesday that she helped secure $9,300,000 in Department of Transportation (DOT) funding for Carson City’s East William Street project. This funding will help improve the safety and accessibility of the road while also promoting new investments in small businesses throughout downtown Carson City.

Senator Cortez Masto wrote a letter of support for the project, calling it vital to Carson City’s continued downtown revitalization efforts.

“I worked in Carson City for years, and I know how important the East William Street Corridor is to locals and commuters,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I advocated for this project because it will make East William Street safer for cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians, bring more business investments to the area, and lay a foundation for state-of-the-art transportation options. I look forward to continue to fight for more resources from the recently passed bipartisan infrastructure bill to support continued improvements in our capital city.”

As part of her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto has worked to improve transportation all over the state. She secured multiple transportation provisions in the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was signed into law this week to help Nevada communities make even more improvements to their roads and bridges, plan for and build electric vehicle infrastructure, make transit to school safer for students, and support smart cities that use technology to solve transportation challenges.

Wednesday's announcement comes on top of the previously awarded DOT grant to Carson City of $7,570,202 for complete street improvements, including smart transportation technology that Senator Cortez Masto fought for in 2018.
