Carson City Supervisors vote to repeal Title 17.10, Open Space Development
Development of Carson City has long been a topic of debate within the capital city, and recently, the discussions have returned more and more to the development of open space, and the confusingly named 17.10 Open Space Development code.
While many mistakenly assumed due to its name that 17.10 deals with preserving open space for the community within the planned development, the opposite is true. Under 17.10, developers had the choice to create smaller lots than allowed by zoning, all while categorizing private yards as “open space."
Earlier this month during a joint meeting of the Carson City Planning Commission and Carson City Supervisors, supervisors voted to begin the legal process of suspending 17.10.
On Thursday during the regular Carson City Supervisors meeting, the matter was heard again on a first reading, and was accepted unanimously.
If approved on second reading, 17.10 will be officially suspended.
