Carson City Public Works offers sand bag locations
With rain continuing to fall throughout Carson City and a Flood Watch in effect through Thursday night, some city streets are experiencing some ponding.
Carson City Public Works crews are finishing the fall limb and leaf pick up today and have shifted into storm mode.
In the event of flooding, sand bag locations are stocked and ready to go at the following locations:
— Ross Gold Park, next to Fire Station 53
— Foothill Drive, off of Winnie Lane
— Carson City Corporate Yard on Butti Way
Bring your own shovel and take what you need.
The Flood Watch continues for the Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas and Lake Tahoe. Periods of moderate to heavy rain will continue today as an atmospheric river system moves through the region.
According to the weather service, the primary threat for flooding is in urban areas, clogged drainage paths, ponding of water on roads and rock slides near steep terrain. Significant rises on creeks and streams may lead to some minor flooding. Recent burn scars from the past few years may also lead to an increased risk for flooding or debris flows.
For the Carson City region, rain will continue Thursday, easing up some tonight with a chance of snow showers as the temperatures come down. There's a slight chance for snow showers early Friday morning and then mostly clear and sunny through the weekend, with a slight chance of rain again Sunday night.
Meanwhile a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Friday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.
