Carson City public safety teams to hold two 'active assailant response' training exercises
Carson City public safety departments will hold "active assailant response" training at the Carson City Courthouse on Saturday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 23, city officials announced Thursday.
The exercises will be conducted by the Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Alternative Sentencing. They will be held at the Carson City Courthouse on Musser Street.
The two-day training event will focus on response to an active assailant incident using a unified approach, said Stacey Belt, deputy emergency manager for Carson City, in a news release. The First Judicial District Court, Carson City Justice/Municipal Court, Clerk/Recorder and multiple Fire and Law Enforcement agencies from area jurisdictions will be participating in this exercise.
The training is intended to integrate personnel from various agencies in Carson City and neighboring jurisdictions to an actual active assailant or other critical incident in order to be better prepared, according to a city news release. Additionally, this exercise will allow Courthouse staff to test their training and safety procedures.
Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing the reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Sheriff’s Office. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recommends that citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with suspicious person or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount, the news release states.
The Courthouse and Clerk/Recorder’s Office will not be open to the public to issue marriage licenses on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The public is encouraged to avoid the area to allow this simulated active assailant exercise to test the skills and capabilities of emergency medical and law enforcement response.
