The deputy asked the man, identified as Knight, to sit back in the vehicle for the safety of the officer. While speaking with the occupants, the deputy conducted a records check on the remaining occupants in the vehicle. The backseat passenger, who identified himself as Swanson, had multiple outstanding confirmed warrants for his arrests in Carson City and Lyon County.

The deputy requested a backup officer, who arrived on scene with a K9. The dog did an exterior sniff of the vehicle, and alerted positive. During a subsequent search, a baggie that contained methamphetamine, (3.5 grams) was located in a backpack sitting behind Swanson's feet.

The trooper approached the vehicle to see if the woman okay and observed a bottle of vodka in the cup holder.

The trooper said as he was calling 911 he observed the woman hide the bottle under the back passenger seat. As the trooper was speaking with dispatch, the woman attempted to start her vehicle. The trooper took her keys and held onto them until sheriff's deputies arrived.

The trooper informed deputies the woman spoke with slurred speech and that they could smell alcohol. He removed the bottle of vodka from the back of the passenger seat. The deputy attempted to interview the woman, and could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person. The officer asked several times if she was injured.
