Veterans honored at Carson Middle School
Carson Middle School students, teachers and staff honored local veterans Thursday.
The event began with polite and enthusiastic student greeters who met guests and escorted them into the school gym for a reception of tasty treats and a Patriotic program. Veterans and guests were welcomed by Carson Middle School Choir Director Briana Valley and the CMS program emcees Melanie Proctor and Makayl Holloway.
Our local veterans were then asked to stand and be recognized. They were cheered by a grateful crowd. Next, they were presented with a commemorative pin, distributrd by the NROTC Sea cadets. The veterans were very touched by the gift.
The program continued with the Pledge of Allegiance and then it was on. The CMS mixed choir sang the "Star Spangled Banner" followed by part one of a military history presentation by Miss Ari Mastrian. Up next was the CMS girls choir with a lovely patriotic favorite "Grand Old Flag" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Part two of the military history was presented by Miss April Dunlap followed by a closing of an emotional and beautiful "Amazing Grace and Hero."
The guests were then encouraged to gather on the front lawn to enjoy more patriotic songs and their amazing Military Tribute "Stake Out" that showcased touching pictures and stories of local veterans.
