South Lake Tahoe man identified in fatal crash Tuesday on US-50 near Zephyr Cove
A South Lake Tahoe man has been identified as the victim of a fatal head-on crash that happened Tuesday night on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove in Douglas County.
Peter Dykeman, 34, died at the scene of the crash, reported at around 6:25 p.m., according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation shows that a black 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on US-50, approaching a right curve in the roadway, according to NHP.
A gray 2003 Honda Element, driven by Dykeman, was approaching the same curve westbound on US-50. As the pickup entered the curve, the vehicle crossed over the double yellow centerline and into the westbound travel lane, striking the Element, according to NHP.
The driver of the pickup was transported with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash, said NHP Trooper Hannah DeGoey.
The crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
The crash forced the highway to be closed in both directions for several hours.
