All Aboard: Tickets going fast for 2017 Polar Express aboard the V&T Railroad
CARSON CITY — Less than a month from opening night, The Polar Express Train Ride is on its way to another sold out season. Even with additional dates this year, tickets to the popular holiday train are more than 70 percent purchased. Families are encouraged to purchase tickets now for a magical trip running from Nov. 18 through Dec. 30.
The V&T Railroad, in partnership with Rail Events Inc. and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, presents The Polar Express for its seventh consecutive year departing from Carson City and traveling to the North Pole. Due to increased demand and six years of every ride at capacity, more days and times were added to the schedule to ensure each pajama clad child, mother, father and grandparent can experience the magic firsthand. Tickets for special final runs through Christmas week through Dec. 30 are ideal for stocking stuffers and gifts to continue the holiday spirit until the New Year.
The Polar Express Train Ride begins Thursday, Nov. 18 with rides through Dec. 30 on evening runs at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Passes for Twilight Trains include $10 off coach tickets for 8 p.m. rides. on Nov. 19, Nov. 26, Nov. 30, Dec. 3, Dec. 7, Dec. 10, and Dec. 14.
Based on the classic children’s book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg and the film of the same name, the train ride recreates the story on a one-hour journey to the North Pole with music from the original motion picture soundtrack, songs and a cast of familiar characters, as well as servings of hot chocolate and treats. Santa Claus and his helpers will board the train once passengers reach the North Pole, during which each child is given the first gift of Christmas – a silver sleigh bell, just like in the film. Elves in every train car lead families in Christmas carol favorites on the ride back to Carson City.
VIP tickets are 90 percent sold and include additional entertainment, extra time with Santa, a special holiday treat, and an exclusive Polar Express ceramic hot chocolate mug. Passengers in this car have raised seating for clear views of the North Pole and room for dancing and games during the trip. VIP tickets are $82 for adults and $72 for children 2-12 – free for children under 2 who sit on a lap. Coach tickets are $46 for adults and $36 for children, with 50 percent of tickets currently available.
Arrival at the station 30 minutes prior to departure is recommended to ensure all precious cargo is on-board. The V&T’s engine and decorated passenger cars depart the Carson City Eastgate Depot (seven miles east of downtown Carson City) and travel nearly two miles before stopping at Santa's North Pole retreat. The boarding area at the Carson City Depot, Eastgate Siding Road offers indoor heated areas where riders can take photos with Santa Claus and purchase souvenirs.
