Carson City area road report for week of Nov. 1-7

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Nov. 1-7, 2021. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— Curry Street between 5th Street and Musser Street will be closed in the northbound direction, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for road construction. Pedestrian closures and detours will also be in place. Please plan accordingly.

— Kings Canyon Road west of Longview Way remains closed 7 days a week, all day, for roadway reconstruction. Only local residential access will be provided. The Waterfall Trailhead and parking area is closed. There is no access and no parking for the trails. Please do not come up Kings Canyon unless you live in the area.

Lane restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— Caroline Street between Nevada Street and Mountain Street will have roadway work, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm for survey and other project preparation activities.

— Clear Creek Road will have lane adjustments and closures between S. Carson Street and Vista Grande Boulevard for striping modifications, Monday and Tuesday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

— Long Street between Roop Street and Rand Street will be reduced to one lane with flaggers, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Marian Avenue at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Molly Street at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Saliman Road at the intersection of Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Sonoma Street between S. Carson Street and Silver Sage Drive may have lane restrictions and closures, Monday through Friday, all day for water and sewer utility work.

— State Street at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

A Carson City drywall laborer was arrested Thursday night at 7:40 p.m. in the area of Fifth and Stewart streets on two felony counts of uttering a forged instrument and a misdemeanor charge of ex-felon failing to register, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

On Friday, Feb. 8, 19-year-old Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman appeared in Carson City Justice Court before Judge Tom Armstrong for his arraignment hearing.

Prosecution prepared a stipulation to transfer Martinez-Guzman to Washoe County to face the more pressing charges of murder. Martinez-Guzman and his attorney agreed.

Martinez-Guzman waived the right to a preliminary hearing within 15 days in order to be transferred to Washoe County.

A pre-trial conference date in Carson City has been set for July 10 for a status check. Martinez-Guzman will not be required to be in attendance for it.

Another round of storms will impact the region this weekend. While snow accumulations aren't expected to rival those from last weekend, disruptions to travel could still be significant.

Beginning Friday afternoon, the first in a series of three storms could bring a 30-60 percent chance of snow to the greater Carson City area after 4 p.m. and again after 10 p.m. However, this system is forecast to be weak and should not leave more than an inch on the valley floors.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1400 block of Camille Drive Wednesday evening for first-offense domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

Deputies responded to the residence on a report of domestic battery, in which the 18-year-old allegedly struck his mother.

Investigators have determined that Antonio Pastini, a Gardnerville man who died when his Cessna airplane broke apart and crashed into a Yorba Linda, CA, home Sunday killing four residents, was carrying credentials leading to false identification as a former Chicago police officer, authorities said Tuesday.

A 66-year-old transient man was arrested at the Carson Mall Tuesday afternoon after harassing customers and staff members.

Deputies were dispatched to the mall on the report of a trespasser who was known to both deputies and mall staff. He had been trespassed numerous times previously, and received a citation less than a week prior at the mall for trespassing.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in identifying possible suspects in a vehicle burglary that occurred in Carson City and subsequent credit card fraud that occurred in Douglas County.

Wilber Martinez-Guzman, the Carson City man suspected of murdering four people in Reno and Gardnerville, is set for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Carson City Justice court to face 36 counts of felony weapons charges, burglary charges, possession of stolen items and immigration charges. He also faces murder charges in Washoe County, but a court hearing has not been set yet.
