Carson City firefighters evacuate senior apartments; heavy smoke after fire extinguished
UPDATE 1:10PM: Sierra Ridge residents who were evacuated earlier this afternoon are beginning to return to their apartments after a fire and heavy smoke forced an evacuation. Carson City firefighters called for an evacuation at the Russell Way senior housing complex after smoke and a fire came from the third floor. The fire was quickly extinguished but smoke occupied much of the complex making it a safety hazard. The senior citizen residents began returning to their apartments at around 1 p.m.

Heavy smoke is reportedly consuming the third floor of Sierra Ridge senior living apartment complex in Carson City and residents are being evacuated this afternoon.
Carson City fire crews responded to 1820 Russell Way and report that a fire inside has been extinguished but that heavy smoke has occupied the entire third floor causing a hazard to residents. The fire call came in this afternoon at around 12:20 p.m. The complex consists of one and two bedroom apartments.
